If you were a party hostess...?

What would you do to throw a good dinner party?

Answers:
make some very simple appetizers cook steak and potatoes, make a large garden salad, serve 2 different types of wine and also have a couple of non alcoholic beverages available. Have a snack tray for after dinner available for when people a are just socializing.

the music should be moderate

there should be a talking point (picture or statue)

little nice nibble stuff

invite the funniest people you know

smile

Take jb's suggestions but have plenty of good food.

The number one thing is to have most of the food ready or almost ready to go ahead of time. That way you can relax a bit before everybody shows up and not seem harried. Plus you can spend the time talking with your guests insead of being in the kitchen the whole time. I like to let people gather in the kitchen before hand and let them help a bit while everybody drinks wine. Its more communal.

I guess you're asking about what food you will prepare for dinner. My suggestion is... wine for drink. If like fish: a pre-cooked Tilapia with canned tomatoes (Italian recipe), and veg. If like meat: Sirlon stake with mashed potatoes, and veg.

first i would start with the appetizers. you can make some chicken salad sandwiches with a side of potatoe salad and you can cut up the sandwiches into little cute pieces. put them in a nicely decorated table where that way the people can serve themselves. put some nice mellow music in the background. and to drink try serving lemonade or some iced tea. then when everyone is ready for the main dish you can give some roast with mashed potatoes and some vegetables. for desert you can serve some pound cake and everyone can drink coffee and just have a good time.

Depends on the crowd. I would do something fun and exotic, like a Jappanese theme with Asian umbrellas, Japanese music, Hello Kitty decor, and you could rent a Kimono, and tell your guest to also. Serve sushi from your local organic store, green tea, sake and dessert: green tea, red bean, or mochi ice cream.
