Luau 14th birthday party help?!
Luau 14th birthday party help?
I'm going to have a party (luau themed) and I've been planing it for quite a while. 2 weeks before the party, I find out this other girl that I know a little is having a luau party a week before mine and she invited some of the people I'm inviting. Everyone who went to her party said it was really fun. I know that she has a pool and they went swimming in it and had some other things that I planned on having. I don't have a pool so I wasn't planning on that. What games can we play and what food should I serve? I want my friends to think my party is just as good as the other girls party and have just as much fun. For food, all I have is chips, fruit kabobs, pizza, and cake. Anything else? Oh and there's a vegetarian that I'm inviting. So please nothing with meat in it! And for games, it's all girls ages 13-14.

First, you need to have a very cool invitation for your party, that way people will be impressed from the beginning.

Then order a lot of cool decorations and tableware, its fun to have a drink from a cocunut cup or with an umbrella in it.
Oriental Trading Co. is a good place and not that expensive.
If you don't have a pool, decorate your back yard with inflatable palm trees and many tropical touches. Hang fishnets on ceilings, doors and on tables.
Get food that has cocunut (cocunut shrimp) and chicken-pineapple skewers. Make fun drinks in the blender, like virgin pina coladas.
Light some tiki torches and get some cd's with some luau music. Get a limbo stick and have fun!
I think i'm doing this for my bday party this friday.
i'm having a hula hoop contest, and then a sleepover, but we're gonna do like make up and stuff there too.
try limbo, and do some themed music, like Jimmy Buffet.
Go to orientaltrading.com. They sell flower clips for your hair by the dozen and leis and beach balls, too. Your guests can make "grass" skirts from draw string garbage bags. They look best if you can find green garbage bags. Cut the bottom seam open and then cut up toward the draw string in one inch strips. Very cute!
Do you have a digital camera? Set up a "tacky tourist" photo booth. Hit some yard sales and your mom and dad's closet for some crazy clothes, hats and sunglasses - think Hawaiian shirts and straw hats and old cameras and beach balls and the like. Put these in an old suitcase and set up a back drop where your guests can ham it up. Take their photos and e-mail them to them with a thank you after the party. We did this at one party and made a palm tree out of helium balloons for the backdrop. I can't find the directions, but we used brown balloons for the trunk and green balloons for the palm fronds.
Teach your guest to make balloon palm trees:

Your party's going to be great. Have a wonderful time!
