Question:

How much fruit should i use for a fruit salad to feed 50-60 people?

Answers:
It depends on what else you are serving. Assume people will take an average of one cup. This will be 60 cups. Maybe 70 cups to be safe. Each large fruit would yield 1 cup or so. This is a lot of fruit!

Figure on half a cup of fruit per person and add a quart more because some folks will take a larger serving than others.

I would estimate 1/2 cp per person because some people won't take any and some will take a little more. Assuming you have a lot of other foods to eat I doubt you'd need much more.

Yes I agree with the person before me, plan on a half a cup per person. Providing that you are having lots of other tasty goodys. And for the fact that not everyone is going to eat it. by the way where is this shin-dig?Ya got room for one more?

How about 1/4th of a pound per person. Thats about 12 1/2 lbs of fruit. You could carve out a very large watermelon to look like a basket with a handle and just fill it. Use grapes, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, canteloupe, honeydew, apples, pears, mangoes, papaya, and some oranges. Some of the fruit is easy, like the grapes, just wash and pull off the stem, strawberries, just hull and add or halve, blueberries rinse and add. Use different colored seedless grapes. You might need to get 15 pounds of fruit since some of the weight will be trimmed off.
