50's Fashion Dress Up Party, Need some creative ideas?
Hey I have 50's fashions party at work in two weeks. It's a huge deal at work and I want to impress everyone, but Im just stumped on ideas. Im looking for ideas that would be creative for a 30yr. old male. Im sure all the guys will be dressed up like a greaser with a leather jacket. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Most guys will probably do the levis, white t-shirt and leather jacket thing. You could do a dress up bit, with a double breates suit and wide tie. Suits all had wide lapels then and were either double breasted or two button. Bowling shirts were popular as well and anybody who did not wear jeans, usually 501 Levis, wore slacks. You need pleated ones, all the way up to the waistline. Penny loafers were big too and have come back into style
the greaser look would probly be the most obvious choice,also easy to dress for,(tight jeans,leather jacket and boots,comb,hair gel,black sunglasses etc) the only other things i could think of was like a classy 50"s bussiness man with the geeky black square glasses and briefcase or maybe like a malt shop server boy with the little apron uniform and little paper hat, or like a gas station boy.....the only things i could think of really.....oh and of course the elvis presley inspired look..!lol or like a classic dude at the bowling alley with the 50"s bowling uniform and shoes etc.. just think of fonzie from "happy days" lol... check google pictures also....have fun!
I think people are going to be very obvious about this one. 1950=greaser or poodle skirt. So predictable...everyone will be dressed the same.
I suggest you don't be so direct. First, exclude the 50's part and focus on costumes you might get for an ordinary costume party.

Have a goofy patterned jacket, bow tie, and glasses? Be a H.S. prom King (make a "1950's Prom King" sash)

James Bond is an easy costume (get a gun) He just came out during the fifties.
A school boy (make a leather book strap) or a Doo wop singer (get an old mic) either would work with a letter sweater.

Hope you can use some of these ideas. The point is, don't try to necessarily think 50's. Think of what you want to dress as, and find out the 50's version. Get it?
Good luck. You'll look great as long as you try to think a little outside the box. Be creative...Don't show up looking just like everyone else.
How about dressing like a beat-nick? That's very 50's. Black turtleneck, beret and goatee. Snap your fingers and recite "Howl".
Or how about Clark Kent?
Or Richie Cunningham? Chinos and a short sleeved plaid button down shirt, letterman sweater, and penny loafers?
Or if you really want to be the talk of the party, you could dress up like June Cleaver. Better yet, find a lady to dress up like Dorris Day and you could dress up like Rock Hudson.
The college where my mom teaches did this theme for their welcome party last year and the college president wore his football uniform. So, maybe get a letter jacket or letter sweater (v-neck sweater with with a large V - for varsity - sewn on the lower left front corner) and wear it with a plain white T and jeans and come as the All-American Jock.
be the Letterman. You know the jock who has a letter jacket or cardigan sweater- Like Richie Cunnigham or Pottsie not Fonzie...or be Arnold the Diner cook don't know how elaborate you want to be, but you could have a blender and mix up milkshake or smoothies for the ladies at lunch
