Question: Who here in Y!A watched the popcorn being cooked by cellphones videos and is that seriously possible!?!?!?
Answers:
I had not heard of this before, but I found three videos which can be viewed at http://freepage!.twoday!.net/stories/49692!.!.!.

I have to admit that I was somewhat surprised at the outcome of all three short videos, and I had to think about it for a while!.

In all three videos, the cell phones are laid on a table surrounding a few popcorn kernels!. Two of them used 4 cellphones, the third only used three with the same result!.
All of the mobile phones were able to be called simultaneously!.
As the phones were ringing the popcorn actually pops after a few seconds!.

To explain this would require some understanding about cell phone operation and microwave effects, since true cell phones today operate in the microwave frequency spectrum!.

The first thing that happens when a cell phone receives a call, a 'handshake' occurs between the mobile and the cell site which it is closest to!.
This is to let the cell site know that the connection is available and has been acknowledged by the mobile, if no response occurs the caller immediately is informed that the number is either out of range on not in service at that time!.
This 'handshake' occurs on the data channel and is looking for both acknowledgment and signal strength!.
During this process the cell site is looking at the signal level from the mobile and sending instructions to reduce the mobile's output power from roughly 3 watts down to the 20 dB quieting level for clear transmission!.
This is to save power consumption from the mobiles battery!.
So except in fringe areas of reception the mobile should only be producing minimum output power during use!.
Since popcorn 'pops' due to the expansion of water inside the kernel as it heats up, and microwave energy is very efficient at causing rapid heating of liquid, I believe this may be possible!.(Although I am very skeptical of anything I see or hear these days)!.

I shall try to see if I can replicate this myself, because I do find it very interesting!.
Anyone interested in the final results can contact me, and I will let them know my results when I finish the experiment!.(Hopefully with some video if I achieve success)!.

A final note which I hope will be of benefit to many people who live in fringe areas or travel between cell sites on a regular basis may find helpful!.
Every time your mobile loses the signal from a cell site and then finds the signal again, it goes through the 'handshake process all over again!.
This is to let your mobile network know you are still active, and which was the last cell site your mobile was receiving the best signal!.
If the mobile loses the reception, it begins to search for a data channel on the network that it is registered!.
Once it finds the network the handshake process begins all over again!
This causes massive drain on the battery if it occurs frequently!.
In my nearest town, the local service only used a 5 watt transmitter and everyone was wondering why their batteries needed daily charging!.
I would go to the local pub and there would sometimes be 5 or 6 mobiles sitting on one window sill because they knew that that was the best reception area!.
Now that the power has been increased from the cell site, everyone has found that they no longer need to either place their mobiles on the window sill, but they only need to recharge their mobile battery once a week!

I hope this helps a little!.
I am now wondering whether the abuse of this technology may explain some of the insanity that we are currently experiencing with politics!.

I shall keep an open mind until I do some further research!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I watched it!. It looks like some kind of cool trick!. I doubt it's possible or else everyone would have cooked an area of their brain by now!.

Of course that might explain Obama's popularity!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can be sure 100's of 1000's of people are already trying it!. It'll be on the drive-by news if it's true!. They love this sort of thing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
