How do I plan this party?!

Question: How do I plan this party!?
My boss has been promoted!. I am planning her going away party!. It will be thrown at a VERY nice and slightly pricey italian restaurant!. Everyone will need to pay their own way since the company isn't sanctioning this!. I don't entertain normally so I am clueless!. It will happen on 6/16/08 after work!. She is much loved by most everyone so we won't have to worry about politics getting in the way etc!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Holding an event at a pricey restaurant is tricky!. Given that not everyone could afford a pricey restaurant -- send an email to everyone to find out what kind of interest this particular restaurant would attract!. Tell them a little about the restaurant and what to expect to pay!.

I would suggest something a bit more informal, after work at a lively bar where they have good appetizers and drink prices!. More casual then sit down and the guest of honor can mingle better!. Personally, the casual atmosphere is more fun!. Something to think about!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

how about going around to everyone to see who's all on board and have them chip in some money (like $40) and just do a appetizer type party at the restaurant instead of everyone all doing a dinner!. check with the restaurant and pick out a variety of appetizers to serve!. then the guests can all pay for their own drinks and anything else they may want separately!. check with the restaurant to find the best way to set it up like do they have a area you can set up for the party group to have a appetizer buffet going for the guests, maybe close access to the bar!. Plus it will be nice for her to be able to get around to everyone and chat rather than everyone sitting at a big table!. I prefer appetizer parties to dinner parties- they just seem to be more fun and easy going!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would send out an email and get a copy of the menu and scan it and attach it so everyone can get an idea of what they are looking at and decide accordingly and there will be no embarassment or surprises!. Call the restaurant and have them send you a menu over!
Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
