If you were having a pizza party what would you serve in addition to it?!

Question:

If you were having a pizza party what would you serve in addition to it?

We are already having salad. It's for my son's 2nd bday and there will be about 50 people. It's outside at a park so it will be hot. Do you think pasta salads woulb be a good side with pizza? If you think they will work, what kinds would be best? What else should I serve?

Answers:
If it is outdoors in the summer, pasta salads would be nice.
But if you use a mayonaise base, be sure to keep it cold enough. (under 41 degrees).

Popsicles

Yes, pasta salads with olives and feta, and plenty of coleslaw too. After all, he's only 2, so the food is for the grown-ups ;-)

Spaghetti would absolutely go well with Pizza.

Fruit salad too

Pasta salad would be fine if you can keep it at the right temp...

hot pastas (spaghetti, baked ziti), cold pasta salads (with and without mayo), fruit salad, chicken wings, regular salad.
here's some simple recipes, double, triple, as needed.

1 pound multi-colored corkscrew pasta
1 green and 1 red bell pepper, chopped
celery, chopped
carrot, sliced thin
mushrooms, sliced thin
purple onion, chopped
1 can sliced black olives
small brocolli florets
cherry tomatoes, halved
radishes, sliced thin
pepperoni, sliced thin
1 bottle wishbone robusto italian salad dressing

Mix all together and refrigerate several hours before serving.

Dunkley's Famous Macaroni Salad

1 (16-ounce) package salad macaroni (or ditali pasta)
1 cup celery, diced
1 cup red onion, diced
1 cup yellow or white onion, diced
1 cup medium cheddar, diced
1 cup Swiss cheese, diced
1/2 cup Parmesan, grated
1 cup dill pickles, diced
1 cup salami, diced
1 (6-ounce) can large pitted black olives, drained (or 1 cup diced or sliced)
1 to 2 tablespoons Lowry's garlic salt
1 to 2 tablespoons fresh minced garlic
1/4 teasspoon dried horseradish
1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
1 to 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 (3-ounce) jar diced pimentos, rinsed and drained
1 to 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise

Add 2 quarts of water to a medium stockpot and bring to a boil. Add macaroni and cook until it is al dente, approximately 9 minutes. Do not overcook the pasta or it will fall apart when the salad is tossed together. Rinse macaroni until cool. Drain well and let it dry out slightly.
Add pasta to a large bowl. Carefully fold in celery, onion, cheddar, Swiss cheese, Parmesan, dill pickles, salami, and black olives. Refrigerate the mixture, uncovered, overnight (or refrigerate for at least 2 hours).
Mix the Lowry's garlic salt, minced garlic, white pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, dry mustard and celery salt together. Add to salad. Fold in the pimentos. Fold in 1 cup of mayonnaise to start. Add up to a 1/2 cup more of mayonnaise if needed. Refrigerate again for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

any kind of pasta salad would work, cole slaw, bread sticks and dipping sauce.....have fun

You can make a pasta salad and a melon bowl with different types of melons (like watermelon, honeydew etc)

For the pasta salad:

1. Cut up carrots, potatoes in small, cubic pieces (about 1 cm cubes)
2. Boil them till you feel they are edable in a pasta salad
3. Drain the water
4. Cut up hotdogs, make them as small as you can
5. Add the pasta (boiled and drained)
6. Add salt and mayo
7. Sprinkle pepper and oregano.

As you think it'll be a hot day, try to keep the salad cold. Maybe you can put the salad in a bowl and put the bowl in a larger bowl with ice in it.

Also, "chip and dip" and "veggie dips" always work in a pizza party.

Ice cream, and maybe some veggies, so it's not all junk food.
If it is 2 year olds, they probably won't eath pasta salad, but the adults probably would.

pasta salad is OK,also fruit salad, some nachos ,spaghetti with meat balls or lasagna
oh,don,t forget cold juice and iced tea

pasta salads are good, do like Parmesan--i love parmesan!

Is it home made pizza or ordered out?

Home made pizza, can be made to suit any type of side dish.
Such as the pasta salads. Here are some different salad ideas http://www.cooksrecipes.com/salads/pasta...
Mini pizzas are great, made on english muffins or french bread!

Ordered out is most likely going to be more of the unhealthy sort and is going to be harder to actually pair up with food that you have home made. When we do a pizza party here with the ordered out pizza, it is usually paired with chips and soda. Maybe veggies and dip.

Good luck!

I wouldn't do pasta salads.
I'd stick with fruit salads or a fluff salad.

Seven-Fruit Salad
? 1/2 cup lime juice
? 1 pint blueberries
? 1/2 cup water
? 1 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
? 1/2 cup sugar
? 1 1/2 cups watermelon balls
? 2 medium nectarines, thinly sliced
? 1 cup green grapes
? 1 large banana, thinly sliced
? 1 kiwifruit, peeled and chopped

In a bowl, combine the lime juice, water and sugar; stir until sugar is dissolved. Add nectarines and banana; toss to coat. In a 2-1/2 qt. glass bowl, combine the remaining fruits. Add nectarine mixture; stir gently. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

__________

Pineapple Cream Cheese Fluff
? 1 8 oz package cream cheese, slightly softened
? 1 can crushed pineapple, do not drain
? 1 large package instant vanilla pudding
? 1 12 oz bin of CoolWhip

Place cream cheese in medium sized bowl and mush into chunks with fork. Mix in crushed pineapple - with the juice. Add the pudding and mix together and then fold in the CoolWhip. Pour into a serving bowl and refrigerate. May also add drained mandarin oranges.

Pasta salad would be okay, but may be tricky depending on how you can keep it cool enough. Fruit salad, with the same idea. If you have pizza, salad and rolls you really don't need much else, people will not assume there would be much more other than pizza if it is a pizza party. You could serve some easy stuff like chips, dip and appetizers before hand too which is probably easier.

I would do the pizza and chips and some fruit and I would do garlic knots from the pizza place or pepporoni pinwheels

I'd serve coleslaw as everyone likes that (well most people do) and I'd do garlic bread

I have catered for outside summer parties, please make sure that anything with mayo is kept on ice. Lining a wheelbarrow with foil and filling with ice for your side dishes makes a great conversation starter. My suggestions for some side dishes would be:

Italian Pasta Salad
2 pounds cooked and cooled pasta
1 jar drained artichoke hearts
1 can green olives
1 jar drained giardiena salad (in the pickle aisle and spelled correctly on the jar)
4 shredded carrots
4 chopped celeries
one bottle Newmans Own Italian Dressing
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
Mix all of the above

BROWN RICE OLIVE SALAD
2 cups cooked brown rice (cooked in chicken broth), cooled to room temperature
1/2 cup sliced celery
1/2 cup sliced ripe olives
1/4 cup finely diced onion
1/4 cup finely diced red pepper
1/4 cup bottled Italian salad dressing
Lettuce leaves
Combine rice, celery, olives, onion and red pepper in large bowl. Pour salad dressing over rice mixture; toss lightly.

Pizza Pasta Salad
3 cups penne pasta, cooked, drained and cooled
4 medium tomatoes, chopped (about 4 cups)
12 slices Hard Salami, chopped
1 cup Mozzarella Cheese Crumbles
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
1/2 cup KRAFT Roasted Red Pepper Italian with Parmesan Dressing
TOSS all ingredients in large bowl.
COVER and refrigerate at least 1 hour to blend flavors.

Fruit Antipasto Salad
Makes 10 servings.
1 - fresh pineapple
2 - firm, medium bananas, sliced diagonally
2 - oranges, peeled and sliced
1/2 - cup thinly sliced red onion
1/2 - pound low fat sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 - jars (6 ounces each) marinated artichoke hearts, drained
green or red leaf lettuce
1/2 - cup fat free or light prepared Italian salad dressing

Twist crown from pineapple and quarter pineapple lengthwise.
Remove core. Cut whole fruit from skin and slice fruit into thin wedges.
Arrange bananas, oranges, onion, cheese and artichoke hearts on lettuce-lined platter.
Drizzle dressing evenly over platter.
Cover the salad and keep chilled until you are ready to picnic or tailgate. Store additional dressing in a jar with a tight fitting lid to pass separately.
Place the chilled salad in a plastic container and place in your ice chest for storage until getting to the picnic.

I hope this helps ..... have a great time.

I would say beer, but obviously not for a 2 year old.

I would watch for creamy things in the pasta or something like that might not mix well.

Maybe a regular salad and pasta salad, bread sticks?

Maybe some other Italian dish?

like everyone said, anything with mayo will need to be kept cold, i suggest getting a five day cooler(of course youw on't need it for 5 days but its keep still cool longer and is a good investment for travling and camping) pack ice on the bottom, but the stuff in the middle and pack more ice on top, i don't eat pasta salads i ususally eat potato salad but i doubt the kids will eat any salad, i would bring a couple of big watermelons as a healthy snack/desert, and you can have awtermelon spitting contests and stuff, thats what me and my family used to do.

i say wings, u cant get the pizza without the wings

I would serve either fruit salad or a watermelon.

for the salad you are doing- I would make it like the Olive Garden salad you get. as an addition.do like the pizza places do, do some baked or fried chicken wing pieces

dessert can be sno cones (rent the machine) or watermelon slices. you can jazz it up with a melon tray (watermelon, cantalope, honeydew, berries etc.)

Is the 2 year old going to really eat the pizza or was it mainly for the adults? Most young kids I know really just pick over the pizza. You don't want to do buckets of chicken or something easier to handle for little ones?

We just did an outdoor pizza party at a city park:
Menu: Pizza, chicken wings, cake(two types), veggie bites (cauliflower, broccoli, carrot/celery sticks, zucchini chips, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers slices---marinated)/thousand island with bacon bits dip--in a squirt bottle, diet/regular colas. Chips/drinks for nibbling after initial feast was consumed-- as all played games at park: balls, blow bubbles, swings, croquet, chalk for hopscotch games. Gifts of course; multiple cameras were present.

Lots of leftover pasta salads that I won't mention. Our family/friends are carbohydrate watching-- so the pizza and dessert were more than enough.

Suggestions from past parties: Pizza, wings, cookies/cupcakes (decorate Birthday boy's), melons--slice fresh at party (newspaper)
ice cream (homemade or bought cup sleeves) veggie bites/dip, colas/ lemonade/ tea. And the mini hot dog: pigs in a blanket with/without cheese.

If you have cooler setup with ice:
strawberry/cantaloupe kabobs, pineapple/cherry kabobs, ham/sharp cheddar cheese/kabobs, veggie bites/dip.
I took one of the larger (cheaper Styrofoam containers; cut it down to about 6 inches high, inserted plastic bought standard box for liner, covered outside with colorful material. At serving table, I filled the box with ice 3/4 full, inserted plastic shallow freezing containers with the cold nibbles; viola, for about 6 bucks you've got a custom cold party server! Bought ones at catering supplies $200.00 plus.

We generally keep the salads for indoor meals; picnics should be mostly finger foods. Salad in cups, maybe. Did a salad for thanksgiving; tossed just before serving: copycat from catered Big wedding: mixed salad greens, craisins, toasted pecans, balsamic vinegar dressing.

Suggestion: decorate with new plastic toys well washed well: dump truck (Plate or fork holder), toy blowup pool (ice and drinks) wheel barrel (chips--buy the bonus multiple individual packs), could make the ice food holder look like a sand box!
