Menu Help...?!
Menu Help...?
So, tomorrow, I am having my inlaws and my husband's cousin and her son over for dinner in our new humble abode. What to serve what to serve what to serve. I have a couple of ideas, and would like to know your opinion, or other suggestions. 1.Beef Braciole with mashed potatoes and a veggie. 2. Pork chops with haluski ( I am part polish and from OHIO... so in case you aren't familiar, that is cabbage and noodles). 3. Pasta and mini meatballs and a salad. .... any thoughts? I could really use your input!
Have a wonderful day

I vote for number 1. Everyone loves mashed potatoes (or they should!). Pasta is getting too normal. Depending on how you prepare the pork chops, I could go with 2. It would be neat for you to serve one of your traditional dishes.
I'd go for something simple but unique. So I'd say mini meatballs and pasta and a salad...Everyone loves pasta!!!! =)
I like the third choice. Is that with or without spaghetti sauce? Garlic bread? Something for dessert?
I would go with the third option. You really can't go wrong with pasta and salad.
Bruchetta! It looks fancy, tastes wonderful and is inexpensive and takes about ten minutes. Of course, this is a side dish or appetizer. Heres the recipe:
French baguette, sliced about 1/2 in (diagonal is pretty)
Extra virgin olive oil
dried basil
garlic salt
Parmesan cheese
chopped cherry tomatoes
fresh ground pepper
dried oregano (opt)
Drizzle (don't drench) the sliced bread with evoo and put in oven on a cookie sheet at 375. While that's in the oven, mix tomatoes with the other ingredients. The amounts are up to you. Start with a 1/2 teaspoon of each, and adjust to your own taste. Go easy on the parm, the pepper and especially the evoo (just a tbs of evoo is plenty, too much and it tastes horrible). Keep adding as much seasoning as you like and if you put too much of something, just add more tomatos. By the time you are done with the tomatoe mixture, the bread should be done (maybe 5-10 mins). The top will not brown b/c of the oil, but the bottom should get nice and browned. You can brown as light or dark as you like. You can scoop the tomato with the bread like chips & salsa or prepare it by scooping the tomato onto the bread and present it that way on a platter. This is great b/c it is good warm out of the oven, or room temp. I hope you try it, it's really is great!
steak potatoe
1 or 3. My guess is that not everyone will be fond of the cabbage dish.
I say keep it simple and make a lasagna with a salad and garlic bread.
I think the past and meatballs w/ salad is a good idea. You need to get some fresh italian bread to go with it! Another idea would be a roast. Perhaps a roast, sweet potatos, salad, biscuits, some corn on the cob, and sauted broccoli.
either number 2 or 3 and you might want to add a desert into the mix, like a chocolate cake, or different cookies. good luck with your diner it sounds like it will be tasty
I'd go with whatever you feel you can cook the best with the least amount of stress. Braciole is delicious and would be impressive but I always feel like it's a lot of tedious work. I'd probably go with #2 - share your ethnic flavor!
