What can I cook for a 45 people menu for a baby shower?
Answers:
It depends on what type of menu you would like? do you want a sit down meal, buffet or just finger foods...for any occasion that u r feeding more then 20 people, its always more economical and smarter have the food catered or purchase platters from your favorite store.
this will allow u to keep focus on throwing a beautiful party...

Baby carrots and baby corn.
Make crossant sandwiches , relish, and cheese trays. Have a couple of dips and punch... and , of course , a cake. You can prepare all of this in advance , so you won't be in the kitchen while your guests are having all the fun.
At my baby shower we had:
BBQ chicken breasts
Roasted Chicken
Roasted Potatoes
Tossed Salad
Green Beans
Corn
Fruit Salad
Rolls
Assorted desserts and of course cake.
A full meal, or appetiziers?
I am going as if you want a meal
Ambrosia Fruit Salad
Baked Ziti with 4 cheeses
Basic Green Salad - add tomatoes, cheeses as desired
Basic Rolls
Applesauce cake
Cater and just relax before the shower.
make something easy, but classy, like manicotti or some other kind of pasta. top is off with a big salad, some special kind of store-bought bread like sourdough, and a dessert tray with homemade goodies like brownies. don't stress yourself over making it overly fancy.
Don't make a big meal just have little finger foods for people to snack on. If they want food have everyone bring something with them.
You want to prepare seasonal appropriate appetizers. And with preparing for such a large group you want to make it easy but elegant. Here are some ideas that make large quanities but won't break the bank at the same time.
Spinach Dip
1 10 oz package frozen spinach (thawed and drained, squeeze out extra moisture)
1 package vegetable soup mix
2-3 cloves of garlic finely chopped
2-3 green onions finely chopped
6-8 fresh basil leaves (rolled and sliced into thin slivers)
16 oz yogurt (drain the yogurt put a paper towel into a fine mesh colander and let sit in your fridge for as long as possible
1 cup mayo
1 can water chestnuts finely chopped
black pepper
Mix all of the ingredients together and place in a pretty bowl. Let sit for several hours to let the veggies in the soup absorb some moisture so they are not crunchy. You can serve this with cubed seedless rye or fancy crackers.
Make up a cheese and lunchmeat platter and serve with crackers. Go to the deli and ask for 2 or 3 chunks of your favorite lunch meat, I like to get a good ham like maple or brown sugar, genoa salami, an oven roasted turkey and a stick of pepperoni. I just cut these into chunks. For the cheese I like to get two really sharp cheese, swiss, and provolone. I chunk these as well and then alternating meat and cheese I place on a platter, for in the middle I will get a really good dipping mustard and then serve pretzels sticks for on the side. You can also use the pretzels to stick in the cheese and meat and use as toothpicks.
Make up a vegetable tray, when buying your veggie try to get equal amounts of red/orange veggies to green/white veggies. They colors will balance each other off. And for your dip in the middle buy the hiddlen valley ranch powder mix and make the dip except substitute the sour creme for yogurt. This will make this dip a little more healthy.
I also like to make up a tuna or chicken salad, and then serve these on crossaints.
Chicken Salad:
1 Bag frozen Boneless skinless chicken breast (season these to your taste and then either cook them in the skillet or bake in the oven. When done let cool and shredd) OR
4 large cans of tuna in water drained
1 bag slivered almonds
4 green onions finely chopped
1 small container alafalfa sprouts
handful baby carrots finely chopped
mayo
salt
pepper
1 lemon, zested and juiced
Mix all of these ingredients together except the mayo, add that last. This way you can use the mayo to add the additional moisture that is needed to finish the salad.
Ok, here is a sweet chicken salad. Delete the sprouts and lemon. Add grapes and celery instead.
You still want to get a cake of course and it is ok to ask your guest to bring something. At this point I would suggest cookies, desserts, jello salads. When your guests RSVP, most of them will ask if I can bring anything, say yes and suggest jello salad or cookies.
You can also make a punch. This is always fun and soooo easy.
All you need in equal parts fruit punch and citrus soda. Refrigerate both of these and mix together in a punch bowl. The just add scoops of rainbow sherbert when you are ready to serve.
If you want to avoid the typical chips and dip try pita chips and cheese dips. You can find these in your better grocery stores near the deli.
Good Luck and I hope that this helps.
i did pesto for one of my showers. i laid out the pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes, parmasean cheese, and pesto and let them all serve themselves with what they wanted and how much. i served with garlic bread. and red wine. delish
[i had red grape juice...not wine haha]
sandwich chip dip strawberrie cake
mini cupcakes frosted with pastel colored frosting
mini quiches
cheese biscuits
chicken kabobs
veggie platter
cheese and cracker platter
fruit platter
pita bread slices with dip
a homemade punch
assorted cookies and other easily made pastries such as brownies
just a list of some nibbles you can have set out, that way you won't have to worry about serving everyone, make it kinda like a buffet on the dinning room table with small plates to eat off of, that way everyone can serve themselves and you can enjoy yourself too
Find a copy of the Junior League cookbook. they often have easy good ideas for showers and such. They also have menu suggestions for different themes and ideas. Good Luck.
Beef Burginon (sp) Fancy name for Beef Stew made with Red wine. Make a big pot and leave it on the stove. Make a buffet in the kitchen and let people serve themselves from the pot. Be sure to have a few loaves of hard bread on hand with a couple of different types of butter spreads. Simple, easy and then all you need is drinks and cake..
Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs
These deviled eggs include bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. Better than your ordinary deviled eggs."
INGREDIENTS
12 eggs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
4 slices bacon
2 tablespoons finely shredded Cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon mustard
DIRECTIONS
Place eggs in a saucepan, and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, and cool. To cool more quickly, rinse eggs under cold running water.
Meanwhile, place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Alternatively, wrap bacon in paper towels and cook in the microwave for about 1 minute per slice. Crumble and set aside.
Peel the hard-cooked eggs, and cut in half lengthwise. Remove yolks to a small bowl. Mash egg yolks with mayonnaise, crumbled bacon and cheese. Stir in mustard. Fill egg white halves with the yolk mixture and refrigerate until serving
You can have a big cold cut platter with a large variety of deli meats and cheeses, and get some different types of breads and rolls so people can make their own sandwiches. And add pickles, olives and chips.
You can make a bunch of chicken wings. You can make trays of lasagna, baked ziti and/or eggplant parm. You can make a tray of cheese tortellini with Alfredo sauce.
Then you just order a cake for dessert, with coffee and tea.
I wouldn't cook!!!!
You will be too busy with your child.
I'm sure it will be held in the afternoon, so sweets would be my choice.
Go to the bakery section of your supermarket and buy some chocolate pound cake, some cherry pie filling, some whipping cream.
Slice the cake into thin slices, put some pie filling in the middle, add some whipping cream, another slice of cake, top with more cream, and serve.
Have a pecan pie, and some other pastry on a nice tray.
Make some deli sandwiches, cut up some fruit and veggies.
All this could be made in advance, no stress for you.
Have fun
Sushi!
