How many are you catering for? If you want cold stuff, stick to sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche, crisps and nibbles (cheap and cheerful) - you could always do cold chicken drumsticks and pasta/rice salad and a selection of salads and cakes. However, if you want something hot you could do a big bowl of chili, do a bowl of rice and have salad and garlic bread available too. Enjoy and don't get too stressed - ask for help if you think you need it.

How about some truffle soup followed by fois gras washed down by a delicious 1987 Cristal?

You've not said how many you're catering for so I have presumed it is just you and your Mum!

i dont know but make sure you got prawns

i would make it a bit nearer the time Hun LOL seriously go to Iceland and get their party food. it is very edible and extremely cheap , i did i dinner party at the new year and it worked a treat

How about a huge nacho platter? Ground beef, lettuce, tomato, beans, and lots of cheese with sides of salsa and sour cream, really quick to make and cheap. good luck

have u got a costco or wholesalers by were u live i would advise
the mini chicago town pizzas)cheese or pepperoni
a big pasta salad one vegertarian one with tuna or meat in
a selection of bread and meats and cheeses
the mini chicken satay sticks
voulez vouints (with cheese egg or tuna)
a big prawn ring or maybe a joint of meat
a big pot of coleslaw or dips
some oven chips
and a couple of big cakes (costco is brill 4 them)and some cream

this should fit into your budget it is easy 2 cook and very tasty enjoy and hope u and your mum have a great day at her 60th

Don't worry about it. The mere fact that you have remembered and are planning to celebrate her 60th birthday will thrill her beyond words. What you actually provide doesn't matter.

I should know - my family forgot mine which was just before Christmas and it hurt, especially as I never forget their's.

You could go down the finger food route, in which case I would agree with the person above and say go to Iceland!

Or you could make a big pot of bolognaise/chilli and serve it with pasta or rice, a salad and some garlic bread. Put it in a big casserole dish with a ladle and let people help themselves! Or you could do two dishes, maybe a bolognaise and a curry... It is cost effective, easy and from experience goes down really well as it is a little bit different.

The buffet at my sister's wedding was nice, crusty bread rolls, a joint of gammon, a turkey crown, selection of cheeses and some grapes, and a salad. Again, cost effective and a little bit different. Oh yeas, I think they brought out a bowl of chips too!

I would say keep it simple, don't try and cram too much in. Please don't forget the pavlova! A party just isn't a party without it!!

Go with the Fat controller. Iceland is fairly good quality & value for money.
Also look at Lidl there salad bits are reasonable.
Try squeezing a bit of money out of your relatives £75 wont go that far.
Have a great party,
Mum will be pleased with what ever you do.

we have just had a party for my mums 60Th just a few weeks ago we decided on hot pot as the weather was cold we got in outside caterers who delivered the food hot the price included all the napkins, knives, forks, spoons, red cabbage etc and there was a selection of cakes and gateaus for afterwards everyone had something to eat and after 1hr we could clear away and carry on with the disco top night PS we catered for 160 and It cost £1.20 a head a good deal

As the people who will be coming will be from her era why don't you cate for food that hails from the 50's & 60's ....... there are some brilliant web sites that will tell you kind of food was around then ............. check out 50's and 60's catering. If it's from that era it should be quite cheap to acheive as well. Music will be easy as well !!!!
As long as there is a nice up to date cake at the end of it I think she will appreciate the memories.

wow tight bugget you should cook some of the food she likes and tell your buddies to lend a hand in the money if needed money dosent make the party and she will probally be happyier if you wud
cook the food your self

good luck ^_^

sYou can do all the usual cheaper things like sandwiches and make a centre spread of pizzas and a bowl of chili or Hotpot.

Goddfellas Pizzas are in most big supermarkets at 2 for1 so that's 1 pound each and they taste great and lots of flavours . People really love them served hot. you will get 60 to 70 pieces from 10 pizzas so only a tenner and follow that with a big bowl of Chili or Hotpot and lots of bread .

Go to Tesco late at night and you will get French bread for 5 to 10 pence and bring it home for freezing until the party.

Go late and get some cakes or gateau that they sell off cheap

Some special offers on bread, cheese, pizza and cakes and you should do the lot for 40 pounds.

go to netto or lidl by there own brand party food scotch edds, pork pi, sausage rolls and stuff like that by loads of them and that will only come to 50. I did that for my sisters engagment party we catered for 150 in a 100 pound budget, basically by cheap food but make them look nice on the plate.

we held a mexican theme party for my 84 yr old nan last weekend, you cant go wrong with mexican food, big pot of chilli rice nachos dips potato wedges veggy tortilla wraps and bean salads, sound like hard work but in reallity you just need bigger cooking pots!
