Having hubby's work supervisor/friend round for dinner tonight?
I don't drink so any advice for a nice reasonably priced wine. We are having roast chicken.
Cheers,
Answers:
you don't know your hubby's supervisors palete.
so play it safe LE PIAT D'OR, is a safe white, red, rose or speciality wine, which retails at £3.70/£4.50.
you could spend £6/£7 on absolute crap. this is the safe play, very drinkable, the white compliments chicken no end.
good luck.
ITS INTERESTING WHAT SOME PEOPLE THINK IS GOOD ADVICE ON A Q&A SITE WHEN YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY ASKING FOR HELP.
WELL DONE PEOPLE YOU ONCE AGAIN HAVE INSTILLED MY FAITH IN THE HUMAN RACE, GO WITH THE SAFE PLAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO E-MAIL ME AND I'LL SPEND ABOUT 2 DAYS GIVING YOU A CRASH COURSE IN WINES.
Get a Kumala white chardonnay. About £6 from tescos/sainsburys. Very nice.
Yes Chardonnay is a good choice, serve cool.
It should be white wine with chicken
Jacobs Creek (Australian) Chardonnay
You cant go wrong with this one red or white.
A nice Sauvignon Blanc goes well with chicken.
I would recommend Yarra Valley Gulf Semillon Sauvignon.
It is available at Tesco's and is £25.37 and well worth every penny.
Good luck and don't burn the chicken!!
Unfortunately for you the advice given so far is all for one group of wines just off the dry scale of whites and while Chardonnay can be a nice drink there are thousands of them both oaked and unoaked.
If i was you i would first find out by calling your husband whether his mate likes dry / medium / or sweet wine and weather he is of the french style or German Greek style as there is a big difference.
Then set yourself a price and then go to both Salisbury's and Tescos as both have an in store guide to take you step by step through the process.
I had fish last night with two friends and my wife, but we all had red wine because of a fuller flavour there are no hard rules. red by the way is easier for dinner as you don't have to work to keep the bottle cold once open (I'm Guessing you don't have a wine cooler) and is great with meaty fish like tuna or a rich sauce with your chicken. you have heard of chicken in red wine sauce (oui).
Sauvignon Blanc
Black Tower dry white wine, about £5-£6 very nice especially with chicken, i get mine in tesco but most places will sell it.
Mmm! he should taste nice
I would go with a White Zinfandel Wine! It's got a nice flavor!
