Why did corelle stop making cups from the same material as the plates?!

Question:

Why did corelle stop making cups from the same material as the plates?

I don't like the mix of stoneware mugs with the corelle glass plates.

Answers:
Corning used to make the cups from the same materials, matching the plates. Everyone I know of hated the cups. They had a curved partial handle that was awkward to use & got just as hot as the cup, making them more dangerous to use. The new design, using the traditional cup design, makes them easier to guide & the handles are safer because they are cooler than the cups. Having used both, I like the new ones better.
