Mardi Gras party food suggestions?!

Question:

Mardi Gras party food suggestions?

Looking for appetizer type things. Went on the food network site for emeril's recipes and found a lot of main dishes.

Answers:
Boiled Crawfish or other crawfish dishes
Gumbo
Jambalaya
Garlic French Bread
King Cake
fry beignets to order

Sugar Pie's Crawfish Supreme Casserole

1 lb crawfish tails
1 can Campbell’s French Onion Soup, undiluted
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup, undiluted
1 can diced tomatoes with juice (can use Rotel for more spice)
1 cup uncooked rice
1/3 cup melted butter
1/4 cup diced green bell pepper (or 2 Tbsp. dry)
1/4 cup green onion (or 2 Tbsp. dry)
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack Cheese
1/3 cup dried parsley (or 3 Tbsp. dry)
Mix all ingredients together. Pour into greased 9”x13” casserole dish, and cover tightly with foil. Bake at 350oF for 45 minutes. Sprinkle with 1 cup Cheddar Cheese; return to oven and bake for 15 more minutes.
Serves 8.

I was also gonna suggest King Cake. It's a round shaped thick cake that has a little baby hidden in it. The person who finds the baby in their piece of cake is the "king" and gets special treatment. It's a fun tradition and very much a Mardi Gras tradition.

And of course any good down-home Southern fare will always fit. Jambalaya, Hop 'n John, or Gumbo are delicious.

For beverages of the alcoholic nature, serve Hurricanes. It is a rum punch and you could probably find mix at a well-stocked liquor store.

Anything seafood pretty much. We always celebrated with boiled shrimp and King Cake :)

gumbo or creaol

anything with crawfish - or just boiled
jambalaya
po' boys

Spinach Dip
Sweet and sour sausage or meatballs
Mexican 7 layer dip
Raw vegtables with ranch dressing
Finger sandwiches
Celery with pimento cheese spread
Deviled Eggs
Olive and cheese tray

here is a site with numerous appetizer recipes

not many appetizers served for Mardi Gras - just big over the top rich dishes like jambalaya and gumbo. boiled crawfish (use a spicy crab boil mix) and oysters on the half shell (no cooking involved) come to mind. you could also fry up a batch of hush puppies, which also go great with the jambalaya and gumbo.

Mardi Gras is supposed to be the big tuesday before lent begins on the catholic calendar (ash wednesday) and symbolizes a day of excess prior to the period of deprivation that is lent. So, any rich, fattening, meat filled appetizer would fit the bill.

Black-Eyed Pea Salad
Colorful tomatoes, green pepper and red onion contrast nicely with black-eyed peas

4 green onions, sliced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup Italian salad dressing
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
Tortilla chips
DIRECTIONS
In a bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Combine the salad dressing, sour cream and parsley. Add to the pea mixture; toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Serve with tortilla chips.
