I have to agree with M C that Orientaltrading!.com has awesome things!.
Other things you can do to make the party area look cool!.
Get those white paper lanterns!. They ones that have NO lights in them and that are very cheap and spray paint them the colors of the different planets and hang them from the ceiling!. They'll look really cool and the kids will be in awe of them! Don't forget the moon! Then get some stars and hang them too! It will look like the kids are in space!. You can really do it up and put some dark blue fabric and tack it up on the ceiling, but I doubt you want to go that far!. If you do, make it go from the center of the ceiling out to the corners!. Then hang the "planets" and the stars!. The stars you can get at the dollar store or any party store, especially now with the 4th of July coming up!.
The lanterns you can get at Linen's and Things, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, anywhere really, they are the paper lanterns and some of them are already colored, some are white, get a yellow one which they do make yellow for the moon, and a red one which they do make red for Mars, and then see what other colors the other planets are!. You can even get them in Target and Walmart!. I've gotten them in blue, pink, etc!. so you may not even have to paint them!. The kids will be wowed by having them hang there with the stars!
Then do dark blue tablecloths and you can get bright neon yellow napkins and if you can find the same in stars or cosmos to decorate the table with!. I would check out the party store and see what they have there!. It can't hurt to look, you'd be surprised what you find!
If you're doing the party in a rocket ship theme, I would get a toy rocket and have that strung up and flying through the air over the table too, the kids would LOVE seeing that! Get some fishing wire to make it so that it's almost invisible to them!. If you do the fabric on the ceiling they'll have NO clue how you got it there! LOL
For food, I would go with what your son likes!. I honestly wouldn't serve food that follows a theme if it means that they won't eat it or like it!. What you could do though, they have those rocket popsicles at the grocery store by the ice cream, you can get a few boxes of them, and get a cookie cutter in the shape of stars and things and cut the food in shapes, but I would make sure the food is your son's favorites!. It is his birthday and he should have his favorites and you don't want to end up having food that no one is going to eat just because it follows a theme!.
I hope some of these ideas help and that your son has a great party and a very Happy Birthday!Www@FoodAQ@Com
