I'm hosting a party, what should I serve?!

Question:

I'm hosting a party, what should I serve?

My wife and I host an Oscar party every year and we make a lot of munchies. What is your best munchie recipe? Please include links to your recipes or the recipes themselves...I'm drawing a blank this year.

Answers:
Hmmm. With Penlope Cruz in the running and me being Spanish I would buy a good book on Tapas and do tapas... since you are used to munchies....
Chorizo <- basically it's sliced sauteed in garlic and olive oil
Tortilla <- it's a spanish omlette
Gambas and Championes <- basically shrimp and mushrooms sauteed in garlic and olive oil
Garbanzo Frito <- basically it's garbanzos with peppers onions, tomato sauce, and garlic.... too good
We make this dipping sauce which is riped vine tomatoes, olive oil, lots of garlic and sauce, puree it. Put it in a dipping dish and have sliced baguette bread around it.
There are soooo many tapas. The food is fantastic easy, and it's such a nice statement.

Then you can research recipes for a good red sangria and white sangria....

Oscars - do you think I'm wolfgang puck? Cavier w/ whatever

Go to www.allrecipes.com, or www.foodnetwork.com, or www.epicurious.com.

This one is real easy and is usually the first plate empty.
Cocktail rye bread
cream cheese
1 pkg hidden valley italian dressing mix
cucumber
dill weed

Mix cream cheese and dressing mix. refrigerate for an hour or more. Spread cream cheese mixture on cocktail rye, top with fairly thin slice of cucumber and top with a pinch of dill weed. Really good!

I say go with the basics, soda pop, popcorn, chips and dip, anything that you think your guests will enjoy. If they don't like it, they can STFU and go somewhere else.

How fancy do you want to be? I have several cookbooks here devoted to just appetizers and hors d'oerves. Tell me what kind of foods you want to use, or how to serve (like things on crackers, crockpot) and I'd be happy to look stuff up for you. I have hundreds of things from smoked salmon and cream cheese on crackers to caviar on red potatoes to Swedish meatballs. The sky's the limit!

Go to foodnetwork.com or do a search on google. Their are so many styles of cooking. (italian, chinese, and etc.) Also, you can cook in other styles like fancy, healthy, and etc. Watch foodnetwork or go on www.fittv.com for healthy recipes. You could go on www.bravo/tv.com and get some recipes from Top Chef. You can eat a salad with cucumbers, green peppers, yellow peppers, orange peppers, red peppers, scallions, tomatoes, and a little bit of extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. Then, you can put out vegetables and fruits. Put watermelon, grapes, kiwi, apples, and cantalope on skewers. For the next course, make some chicken with garlic . Put some oil and garlic in the pan on low heat. Then add rosemary, parsley, and very little amounts of finely chopped basil. Then add one teaspoon of cumin and salt. Good luck and I hope I gave you the advice you need.

What are you serving to drink? With martini's and such, the food might be more elegant. With wine and beer, more down to earth. Here are some things I do:

1. Pepper salami spread with cream cheese and rolled around
a cornichon, secure with a toothpick
2. Sliced english cucumber topped with goat cheese and
smoked salmon. Use a dill sprig to garnish
3. Puff pastry spirals: Roll out a sheet of defrosted puff pastry
Top with black or green olive tapenade and goat cheese, roll
back up and slice. Bake until puffed and golden brown.
4. Artichoke and crab dip: 2 cans artichoke hearts, drained and
chopped. 1 can lumb crab, rinsed and drained. 1 can diced
green chilis. 1 cup mayonaise. 2 cups shredded parmesan
cheese. 1/2 tsp hot sauce. Mix the above ingrediants and
bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and lightly browned. Serve
with your favorite water cracker or blue corn tortilla chips.
5. Lil cheddar smokies in cresent rolls served with sweet hot
mustard.
6. Brie en croute: 1 wheel of brie. 1 sheet puff pastry. 1 jar
raspberry jam. 1 cup chopped pecans. Mix jam with pecans
Take your puff pastry and roll out to make a large rectangle.
Place brie in center and top with jam mixture. Bring edges up
and around the brie and tie with butchers twine. Bake at 350
degrees until puffed and golden brown. Serve with sesame
crackers.
7. Asparagas and Black Forest Ham rollups
8. Melon and prosciutto
9. Mousse truffee with water crackers and mushroom brie
10. Poblamo chilis, seared and skin removed. Cut into large
bite sized pieces. Brush with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt,
and garlic powder. Top with shredded jack cheese and
bake until cheese is melted.

The list goes on!
