Has anyone thrown a renaissance themed bd party?!

Question:

Has anyone thrown a renaissance themed bd party?

my big girl is turning 10 and we're making a big to do since she has made so many friends at folklorico and scouts. we decided a renaissance theme because we had a blast at the RENFEST here in texas. i'm already working on our costumes. she wants a new one, and i want to be a wench. anyway, anyone have any ideas of food, games, decorations? i'm pretty creative but i cant think of things to decorate with.

Answers:
Decorations: Make banners to hang on the walls (use felt and glue), flags, shields/swords, suit of armor, throne for the birthday girl.

Checkers/chess, draughts, jousting with padded poles, sword fighting.

Fruit tarts, meat pies, roasted turkey legs or ham, bread & honey, roasted root veggies (carrots, potatoes, celery, turnips).

Ahhhh, The Princess Bride! Sounds like fun! Food back in those days was pretty bland in comparison to now, but think about roasted turkey legs (or perhaps chicken legs and thighs in this case), potatoe skins stuffed with cheese and bacon (for the boiled potatoes), carrot stix and celery with a dip, sour dough bread for tearing and gnawing, some apple wedges (soak them in pineapple or lemon juice to stop the browning process first) with caramel dipping sauce, and cupcakes! Have fun!

decorate using medievel flags that you can paint using her favorite colors
you can make a castle facade with plywood or heavy duty cardboard, paint it and be sure to include her "crest"
wrap (fake)ivy around everything! you can get it wherever silk flowers and crafts are sold.
use lots of gossamer to wrap around chairs, banisters, etc.
put torches at entryways
tables should be set with white, green and/or deep burgundy colored fabrics
fill bowls (wooden if you have any) and baskets with fresh fruit and veggies
be sure to adorn the bday girls personal table setting with purple or green fabrics with gold squares painted on to show her importance; include a basket of flowers and hang a banner behind her with her "crest"
