Here are some tips on planning a Canada Day party that the kids will be talking about until the next Canada Day rolls around!

Decorations

Load up on red and white party decorations to carry off the Canada Day theme in style—like red-and-white streamers and Canadian flags!. You can pick up miniature Canadian flags at the dollar store for just a dollar or two a piece!. (Note: If you decide to go with red and white latex balloons, you'll want to keep them out of the reach of young children for safety reasons!.)

Food

Make a rectangular cake and decorate it to look like the Canadian flag!. If you're not sure you're up to the challenge of drawing a maple leaf, either purchase a maple leaf stencil from a cake-decorating store or make your own using a stencil-making kit!.

Music

Ask party guests to bring along a music CD featuring their favourite Canadian performer!. Don't forget to include some great homegrown children's entertainers, too, like Sharon, Lois, and Bram!.

Games

Make a list of party games that tie into the Canada Day theme-like "Pin the Tail on the Beaver!." Hint: You can give classic picnic games like the beanbag toss and the three-legged race a distinctly Canada Day feel by using red and white beanbags for the beanbag toss and red-and-white strips of fabric to tie the contestants' legs together for the three-legged race!. You have to work!.!.!.that's not fair! Well, hopefully the morning will get off to a start with a box of Timbits, eh!?

Small cupcakes with red/white frosting, or a maple-leaf shaped cake tin would go quite well!.

As to entree items, maybe some poutine (although by July it's a bit warm for that)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've done a Canada flag cake, done cookies made like Canadian flags, you could always do crackers with cheese and Canadian bacon!.!.!.the ideas are endless!

Just be creative, and think of things that represent CanadaWww@FoodAQ@Com
