What's a great theme for a party?!

Question:

What's a great theme for a party?

I am turning 30 in a few weeks and want everyone to be in fancy dress. Ideas?

Answers:
Hey I'm sure anything you choose will be great! I did want to add on to some of the choices people gave and add one or two more.

As to the masquerade you can go all the way with decorating the whole place gold and black, gold table covers black plates, cups forks and so on. Mask can be hanging and place around the room. decorating small sparkle in tables, a greeter whos says welcome madam and sir, even connect it to Phatom Of The Opera. You can buy the music soundtrack and play the masquerade song to start out. Extra decorations a big gold mirror and piano as props to go with the look. center pieces can be white cndles with gold holder, party gifts can be red roses to the ladies.

1920/30's theme, men dress as gangstas of that time and all women can dress fancy as the rolling twenties, dresses, skirts, shoes, and hair look, even wigs will be better. music from the chicago soundtrack or oldies from that time will be best. lounge singers and dancers, poster of that time singers in black and white, a clue game with a murder of honored guest ( birthday girl)

New thought ( movie one night with the king ) good movie about esther in the bible but you can use that time of theme, woman can dress up like the woman, hair down adorned with gold. You will be queen of course, best looking, best dress, gold and all and you will have one that is your king the rest can either be soldiers or servers of that time. see the movie for decoration ideas, fabric colors, cadles, scrolls, and so on

Diamonds are a girls best friend, Black and white all men in black all women in winter white you can be in silver or marilyn monroes look with white dress with diamonds, glimmery setting, sivler and black decorations or gold and black.

thats it for now, other themes are for kids, teens or like 50's and 70's, Have a great Birthday.
or your favorite color theme

Black Tie party - everything black and white. Invitations, party decorations, clothing: have people wear black and white.

Relive Prom Night; everyone dress up as if they're going to prom.

Murder Mystery/Clue Game party

Casino/Vegas Nights party

Medievel theme

Roaring Twenties party

50's cocktail party

Hollywood theme

- - whatever you choose - have fun, be safe and Happy Birthday!

Go Hollywood! You can do the whole red carpet thing and as your guests show up have them walk in on the red carpet as the cameras snap away at them! If you plan on having kids at the party you can make them the poparazzi! Or you could do a Vegas theme and do a casino type setting and play some poker or other card/dice games.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The BEST theme for a party for ME would be a Middle Eastern theme with belly dancers and arabic music! It's the BEST! You would have an excellent time and the best party for everyone to remember!

A Very Happy Birthday to U well in advance.

Some ideas:

Ethnic wear: Indian/ South Asian. Looks very elegant.
or
Color code: Black/Red/Pink
or
Couples Only
or
How abt a beach wear party.. esp if u have one around a pool?

For my 21st my theme was 'All that Jazz (1920's style)', it was great. I didn't really intend for it to be formal, but most of the guys wore suits and the girls dresses. The movie Chicago had been released not long before so everyone know what to wear! I highly recommend it.

1. Hawaiin
2. winter wonderland
3. masquerade
4. black out ( decorate you house all white and tell everybody to dress up in black)
5. white out ( same thing as black out but reverse)

Mardi Gras...masks, colorful attire

Circus freaks for something different.

or seein as you and your friends would have been growing up in the 70's / 80's you can always do 70 or 80's fancy dress. you will be alble to see how funny you all looked back then! and have a disco theme.

I'm turning 30 this year as well and I'm having a dress up party.
Originally i was having a masquerade ball (because people could be as extravagant or simple as they wished) and then I thought about the red carpet attire theme but I didn't want my guests having to spend out to much money.
And so now I'm having a couples theme.
My husband hates dressing up but will just for this night.

at least he can take his off and still be dressed sensibly if he wants to.
Make sure what ever you do you have a ball
Happy 30th

A couple of parties that I have thrown that have gone down storming, have been Rock n' Roll, and Woodstock ( flower power). Hope your party goes well, would like to know how it went, Oh just remembered in the 80's there was a lot of fun with the old Vicars and Tarts, especially when the women were the vicars and the blokes the tarts. Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you.

A friend of mine went to a Trailer Trash party! He said it was awesome, everyone was dressed like an absolute bogan and they drank shandis and got hammered.
My aunt had a cocktail party and told everyone to wear black and white, no colours, and she wore a beautiful bright red dress so she stood out. It was really elegant. There were fairy lights everywhere and the bar was great and my cousin and I were waitresses.
You could also do a letter theme. So everyone has to dress up as something that starts with the first letter of your name. Eg P: pope, poledancer, Powerpuff Girls.... etc.
My cousin had a masquerade ball, and that was fun.
Good luck deciding!

A roman TOGA party!

Fur and Feathers

pornstar. haha but seriously its soo much fun and it brings a real laid-back element to the party. nova had a pornstar party in brissy and it was just awsum.

Elegant Party

I have been to so many boring, dull 40th birthday parties so I wanted to make my husband's party different and elegant. I selected a dessert party that was black tie. I sent out Crane's engraved invitations. I selected a desserts for each decade and paired it with a dessert wine or port from the same decade. The dessert we made were 1960's round brownies with mint smooth frosting decorated with peace signs paired with Tiamarie. For the 70's, we had a strawberry fondue with orange and lemon pound cake cut into flowers (hippy looking) paired with a 1970's sweet German wine. For the 1980's we made chocolate raspberry moose cake topped with a matching Jelly Belly paired with a 1980's port and for the 1990's we had a fruit terrine paired with a sparkling Muscat wine. For 2000, I had the dining room tablecloth in Burberry plaid and the cake was two layers wrapped in Burberry plaid ribbon fondant. My daughters even had Burberry plaid taffeta dresses. Of course we had champagne with cake. The other highlight was that I decorated each table (dessert) to match 1960 purple and blue tie dyed tablecloth, 1970 sparkling paisley orange and avocado green and 1980 pink and green and the 1990 black and white animal print. Our florist made great arrangements to match the theme (daisy's for 1960, etc.) I had menu cards made for each table speaking about the highlights of the decade and the wine and desert. I also had a black and white picture of my husband from each decade. I colored small parts of the copied picture with a light markers to match the table and had great paper behind the picture in the frame. Everything was coordinated down to the ink color on the table cards. We had a cheese table with a server and each dessert table had a serve too. I was a night to remember. I also had a port and cigar table with dried fruits and nuts outside for the men decorated with elegant crystal and silver antique pieces. We gave all guests Zingerman's (tall cylinder with a colorful label) cinnamon sugar (they made a custom label for the top and tied a black bow around the beautiful can). In addition to all of this, we served breakfast at 11:30 p.m. with a buffet in our kitchen.

Murder Mystery/Clue Game party ?

Have you thought of hosting a murder mystery? You can buy them online, guests get instructions before arriving, together with a suggested fashion such as dress in 1920's gear or wild west etc. My daughter and her friends has had a hoot with it for the last 3 years. To get instructions, just google "host murder mystery" with or without the quotes.

You could have a "Pimp and Ho" ball. Great fun. Or how about "Ugly Hawaiian Shirt" luau? You could also go to the old "Death of Youth" where you have the coffin and the whole cemetary theme. All sounds like fun....

I lived on a kibbutz for a year a few years back and we were always having themed parties to pass the time. The best one was Amazon night. We got trees and branches and animals skeletons and all dressed up like warriors etc. It was fab!

Give everyone a different letter of the alphabet. If more then 26 people are coming give some 2 letters. They have to come as something that starts with the letter they have been allocated. For eg: If you give someone the letter P, they might come as a priest... If your going to drink at your party then they could all bring alcohol that starts with the letter they have been given. Hire a barman to make up your drinks.

its winter time....everyone freezing...have an indoor Hawaiian party. decorations and all. tropical drinks, tropical foods, great times!!! forget about the cold for a while and go Hawaiian!!!

Glitz & Glamour Party whoever is the best dressed will win someone speciasl to cater for their needs.

have a great bithday!

Oooohhh.... well try a like um...you know a rock'n' roll hall of fame type thing or the Hard Rock! ya thats hot!

Try a Black & White theme - then you can go dressed as half woman (dressed in white) and half man (dressed in black) and if you do not have any offers to dance you then dance with yourself!!!

A black&white party!

Opp Shop theme
