Fondue...help it's burning!!?
My husband bought me a stainless steal fondue set from bed bath and beyond for Vanlentine's Day....this is my first fondue set, and so far we have only tried chololate a few times, and so far each time the chocolate has burned. I have attempted to stir the chocolate the entire time...result the burn pieces were now throughout the chocolate, kind of gross. I have attempted to lower the flame however each time I have tried the flame just goes out. How can I stop this from happening? Is there anything out there to prevent this or and I cooking the fondue incorrectly??

Chocolate can be fussy. I would use a double boiler on the stove to melt the chocolate before using the fondue pot. When using a double boiler, do not let the water come to a fast boil. It should just barely break the surface with a few bubbles, and make sure that the water does not touch the bottom of the double boiler insert. The water should be a good inch from the bottom the top pan. It does not need to be stirred. As a matter of fact, stirring melting chocolate can make it seize (harden).
Transfer the melted chocolate to the fondue pot and have the flame on the lowest setting. If you think it is starting to burn, then extinguish the flame (you can re-light it later), or remove the pan from over the flame and set it on a heat-resistant place-mat (a thick one), or put it on a trivet, and then replace it over the flame as needed.
It sounds like your flame is too close to the pot. Perhaps you might consider melting the chocolate over a double boiler first and then adding it to your pot afterwards. Keep the flame on very low, or find another type of burner.
I usually warm the chocolate on the stove first, keeping a close eye on it so it doesn't burn, then put it over the flame when when it's melted and you're ready to eat it. That way you can have the flame turned very low just to keep it warm, and it won't burn it.
You don't want to keep the flame on all the time, unless you are using oil to cook meat. Chocolate, cheese or sauces will stay hot for quite a while once heated and will always burn with constant heat especially if not stirred. "Happy Dippin"
i take a bag of chocolate chips (nestlea morsels) and put them in a bowl in the mircrowave for 30 sec- 1 min. then i take it out and stir it and pour in a little bit of heavy cream. i stir it again and put in back in for 30 sec on 50% power. i take it out, stir it, put it back in for 30 sec on 50% power, numerous times until it has a good consistency. then i put it in the fondue pot with the flame to keep it warm. it takes a while to acchieve the right consistency, but its delicious and worth it
**you dont need to put heavy cream in each time, it will be too watery if you do. and only put in a little bit when you do. whenever it gets too hard, put some in**
