Restaurants use a lot of red on the walls and booths or floors, this color stimulates the appetite. Glassware, linens and candlelight is also restaurant. Putting a flower at each place is very bistro. Use underliners or chargers under your serving plates, set full place settings (including salad forks, dessert forks, etc.,) and have mood music on in the background, just soft enough so that you can converse without trouble. Serve a salad with rolls, a nice steak with baked potato and some asparagus, and a simple dessert such as a sherbet in a dish with a little champage or sparkling dring splashed over.

Decant some wine into a nice server and use your best everything. Rent a movie for later and make popcorn and have sodas too.

Get one of those antique Menu boards and put it at your front door. CLEAN EVERYTHING!!! If you have carpet..use less furniture in that room. Use as many hard floor rooms as you can. Have your dining room as "restaurantish" as possible. If you are really going all out, paint it a dark color and put up wall lights (your probably not going all our for this occasion)
Here's something easier. Clean all the walls of any posters or anything unnecessary. And put up pictures (if you have any) of you and your BF in nice clean (cheap) frames that you can hang up. Put the lights on low. Have your dinner table your masterpiece...look up table settings on the Internet to find the best way to make it look extra formal. Get candles...put on the table a list of things (like a restaurant would put a wine list or a "advertisement" for a special on their tables).
I did something similar for my BF. I bought cheap vines and put them all around the room with lights wrapped around them to make it look really cool. He really liked it.
I hope some of this helps!

Think white table cloth and fabric napkins. Pull out all your pretty glassware and set the table as fancy as you can. Dont forget the candles. Turn the lights off and light as many tea lights as you want. Print up a menu on the computer and have a few bottles of different wine on hand so he can pick his own from the wine list. Serve the dinner plated like it would be at a resturant. Maybe offer 2 entrees and let him pick what he wants to eat.

Table setting is essentially. Place a tablecloth on the table. Use cloth napkins with your prettiest dishes. Put a fresh flower or plant on the table for a centerpiece, along with some candles. Add pretty wine glasses and a bottle of wine. He will love it!

bring thing in courses like they do in fancy restaurants, bread, salad, main course, dessert good luck and have fun.

Candles or soft lighting
romantic music
beautifully set table
dress up georgeously
pre-prepared food (so no hassle or work during the meal)

And there you have it!!!

my suggestions for easy minimal - work and no last minute preparation dishes are:

Starter......
Italian Ham cheese and Olives
(can be laid out on two plates and refridgerated in advance)

Main.....
Lasagne with salad and french bread
Can be made in advance and will keep warm in the oven, no last minute prep involved.

Dessert....
Tirimisu, or ice cream,
something nice but shop bought

To end with some cheese and biscuits or some nice chocolates is great.

Nice bottle of wine .....and soft drink or water.

ENJOY!
