Help throwing a housewarming party?
I am having a housewarming party next month, my bf and I just got a house and moved in together. His family insists that we have a housewarming party. I have no idea how to do this... What kind of food? Drinks? Do we register? I need help!
Answers:
Don't register, most people will bring wine.
I would make sure to have a whole bunch of apps:
guacamole (homemade, by avocadoes a few days ahead time to ripen), salsa, queso and tortilla chips.
A make-your-own nachos station is fun
Shrimp cocktail
Spinach dip
Bean dip
pigs in a blanket
Then have a main course if you want, like a few trays of lasagna made the day before and just heated up in the oven before the party
For drinks have soda (make sure to have diet)
Have premixed martinis that you prepared an hour before in a pitcher (you have to have martini glasses and shaker - peir one imports)
Have some beer of course
Ask everyone to bring a dessert
Make a nice ambiance, with candles burning and good music playing, and some fresh flowers placed in a few places
Also buy the game Scene it and that can be a form of entertainment that people can play and laugh over.
ps. a good martini drink is vodka, peach schnapps, malibu, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cranberry juice.
pss. sometiems it's fun to go with a theme like Mexican with the food and the drinks (margaritas) and the music even too.
paint brushes and rollers
prepare to get em ready to work
No..you don't register. A housewarming party is a party you have and invite friends and family to see and celebrate your new place. Most people will bring a little something as a gift (champagne, a plant etc). Serve what you would serve at any party.
Congrats. Girlfriend, do a registry! There are housewarming registries, and I don't think it's tacky....
How many people are coming?
I would do a party around tons of appetizers and set up a great bar. This way you aren't stuck in the kitchen cooking while your guests are there....
We are Spanish, so I would do Tapas. But I am not sure what food you'd like.
You can set up the dining room table with the appetizers, and make ahead of time carafs of white sangria.
You should put a note card in each invite with a recipe that they can bring from their kitchen to yours....
Good Luck.
PS
Decor? You want that home fun feeling... go to Target and buy some really nice candles...
Do not register ! To register now and then later for a bridal shower, and wedding would be tacky. Most people will bring gardening tools, a plant, kitchen items anyway. Sandwich and cheese trays with potato salad or chips with assorted drinks would be nice . just be casual. This is a great way to show off your new place and let people know where you live.
