It wasn't the french..
I believe it was the Germans...they had something called Brat Kartoffel...sliced potatos fried in a pan with seasoning,then they tried different shapes and sizes and deep fried the taters and the french fry was born....

The real early pioneer of french fries (frozen ) was a man called John (Jack) Simplot. In the 1940's in the Northwest part of the U. S. He and his company is one of the biggest processors of frozen french fries in the world. they are one of the few who produce for MacDonald's among many others.
