I am having an 80's party at my church and I am helping planning it but the thing is we need some movies that are very kid friendly so no swearing, sex, ghost's etc...

Please Help!

If you can think of any movies just give me any ideas about activities, decorations, food.

Ghostbusters
Annie
Goonies
The Never Ending Story

Remember to word your party invitations in exactly the same way, and tell everyone to come dressed as their favorite 80's star, then put on the 80's music CD and let the party begin!.

Lip-sync contest: Cash to the first and second place winner
Best Look-alike: This one should be really fun...

We used a hypo needle to spike crates of Capri Sun with Bacardi 151. Very very popular drink
We also had Connect Four and other games sitting out. We served Pizza, buffalo wings, etc. We had jello shots, Boone's wine (as well as the good stuff) and Pac-Man cupcakes.

Decorations:

Colors-Bright! Magenta, turquoise, lime green and anything fluorescent is great. Streamers, balloons and confetti in bright metallic is also good. Visit party supply stores and thrift stores to find games and toys that celebrate the 80s mood. Rubik's Cubes (you can find "new ones at discount stores), Connect Four, Cabbage Patch dolls, Garbage Pail kids bubblegum cards, Care Bears, Smurfs, you know the drill. Pull out the old Atari 2600 and fire it up! Everybody loves Pac Man! If you don't have your old Atari 2600, borrow your kid brothers Nintendo 64. There are some great arcade classics available at your local store. A working Simon (there are hand held varieties sold at discount stores) and Speak and Spell are always a blast too! Find your old, (or get them at a thrift store) scratched up vinyl albums and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line and tacks for added effect. Pick up some movie and band posters from the 80's.

Snacks:

Every successful soiree must have snacks...here's some that will add to the fun.

Combos
Twizzlers (make your mouth happy...)
String Cheese
Rice Cakes
Fig Newtons (but in other favors like raspberry and strawberry)
Microwave Popcorn
Jelly Belly Jelly beans! (Ronnie's favorite!)
Jell-O Pudding Pops
Hot Pockets

Refreshments:

Nonalcoholic:
Tang
Coca-Cola
Capri Sun
Pepsi
Drink boxes
Fresca
Mountain Dew
Jolt Cola
Tab

Alcoholic:
Wine Coolers
Wine in a box
Rolling Rock

Goodie Bags:

Fill with candies that any child of the 80s loves.

Pop Rocks
Big League Chew
Bubble Yum
Bottle Caps
Fruit roll-ups
Carmellos
Bottle Caps
Jolly Ranchers
Gummi Worms
Nerds
Reese's Pieces
Gummy Bears
Fun Dip
Perrier

Why not throw in a Rubik's cube? ->
Find delicious candy for your goodie bags.

Music!

There are tons of great 80s compilations out there you can just put in the CD player and set on shuffle. Some of the best are:

Just Can't Get Enough (Rhino)
Richard Blade's Flashback Favorites (Oglio)
The 80s (K-Tel)
Living in Oblivion (Capitol)
Monster Hits (Koch)
Post-Punk Chronicles (Rhino)

Diversions!

Here's some ideas for various activities.

Costume contest. This is a given. You could have a variety of categories from best look-a-like to worst and so on.

80's Trivia games. There are tons of them on the web. Make up your own lists and give away prizes like Cabbage Patch dolls, t-shirts with nifty sayings of the decade or little Rubik's cubes.

How about a lip-synch contest?

Ask guests to bring a photo of them from the 80's and tape them up. Have a contest to see who can guess the most right answers.

Play 80's movies on a television, or on multiple sets. If you have the time and inclination you could make a compilation of your favorite scenes from 80's flicks.

Pin up poster boards and ask guests to contribute their best, worst and funniest experiences of the 80's. (e.g. What was your wost hair day? Who was your favorite Pop group and why?)

any care bears movie, my little pony and ghostbusters have ghosts, but its not scary.

No ghosts? What's wrong with Ghostbusters?

Also try Stripes, Caddyshack, and Blues Brothers.

Goonies, Clue (murder mystery- funny!), Muppets, Sixteen Candles, Three Amigos, The Great Outdoors, What About Bob

Decorations should be neon, definitely. For food there's Doritos and Mt. Dew or Jolt. And the first movie that pops to mind is The Goonies.

At least that's what I remember of the 80's.

popples, thundercats, the list goes on lol

Uh, Sixteen Candles has some nudity in it...
How about Back to the Future? ET?
As far as food is concerned, you'll definately need Reece's Pieces, Doritos, Tab, (or Pepsi), and some pizza.
Good luck!

here is a great website that will give you info on the 1980's. have fun!
kclibrary.nhmccd.edu/decade80....

How about...
The Star Wars Trilogy, E.T., Back to The Future, Caddy shack,
Bill and Ted's excellent adventure, Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal

Rubiks cube races, Pac Man video games, Trivial Pursuit.
Florescent colors, Black and white checked was big.

you could do anything for food.

airplane was good for kids of all ages, also cool runnings about the jamacian bob sled team is crack em up laughter in a video .. decorations .. disco ball .. along with saturday night fever might work for an 80's party .. have fun!

Superman, Herbie, Grease, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink.

Right now the 80's fashion is coming back so you can have everyone dress up like they were in the 80s.
