Answers:
pick your fave holiday, even if it's not the right season! we love doing Mardi Gras avery chance we get! Halloween is also may fave!

Mideival Fantasy, Luau, Barnyard, Rambo, Flowers in Paradise, Rodeo, Snow Excursion............it goes on forever.

Need to know more about the person who the housewarming is for, what they like, what they daydream about, favorite foods, music, etc.

There you go, now you have a kit to put one together yourself.

PS - you ain't 'sposed to throw one for yourself, so if this is my good friend, you must let me throw the party dang nab it!!!!!

A doghousewarming party? Have all your friends bring their fourlegged best friends.

A literary cookout? Have guests bring dishes mentioned in literature and/or dress as famous chefs.

A wine and food tasting? A wine trip around the world...all kinds of wine and food from exotic places. Can I come?

How about a Stone Soup party? Each guest brings an ingrediant to add to a pot of broth and at the end the entire crew gets to enjoy a steaming tasty bowl of the stuff! You can read the story of the Stone Soup or have it written out to give to your guests. Another idea would be to have a Food Bank party where guests bring canned goods etc. to be assembled into bags during the party. After the party you take the bags to your local Food Bank or Homeless Shelter and make a donation. Not your cup of tea? Well, then I guess you could try celebrating the upcoming Spring Equinox.

Themes are endless. And you can have a lot of fun with them.
One of the cool things about a housewarming party is to have people over to make your house feel like a home. Usually people bring you wine or houseplants or various things, but the hard part is they are seeing your place for the first time and most usually don't even know what your decor is to bring you something that works in your new place.

So maybe just opt for the gathering of food and friends. Have each person bring over one of their specialites that they enjoy making at their home. It's kind of a neat thing to have a pot-luck party this way, tasting everyone's favorite dish they make. Maybe have each person bring their favorite dish and several copies of the recipe - so each guest (including yourself) gets the recipe of everything brought to the party to take home with them. Then everyone gets to have a new dish added to their home, and your new place gets the housewarming gift of the recipes of all the people you enjoy in your life.

Something else that is fun that you can do (if you have a yard or not, it doesn't matter - you can do containers or small pots) - have a 'garden party' - maybe clippings of a plant or seeds from something from each person's place, so when your garden grows, you can have a variety of things growing from each person (these can be houseplants or flowers, or herbs or whatever). It puts a bunch of people at ease right away, talking about everyone's challenges with plants and you can learn great tips.

If cooking and plants are not your thing, with Spring coming up and the whole 'Spring cleaning' theme - maybe think about having everyone bring a product they love to use and their best household tip for you.

You can use these above non-food themes like the gardening and the cleaning one - and carry them out into your food theme, too, with decorations in how you serve food. Instead of a pitcher of margaritas, lemonade or sangria punch, fill a watering can with the beverage you are serving it to your guests. Go to the store and get planter boxes and fill them with chips, etc. For the cleaning theme, you can do the same with buckets, buy some cheap dishrags and use them for napkins, etc. Play with the theme and have fun with it.

Happy Housewarming!

I think being that it is a housewarming party, it already has it's own theme. But what you need to do is find a theme for the food. Think about the style of your house, is it spanish style or victorian or what. Once you have figured out the style of your house, have your food and drinks reflect the style of the house. Such as, if your house has a spanish style to it, serve spanish food and drink. Good luck

Stock the Bar Party (where people bring you liquor)

a wrestling themed party

TOGA Party! Toga, Toga, Toga! If the guests leave their costume behind, you've got new linens!

a masquerade party
a black and white themed party - have your guests wear only these colours.
have an 80's theme or a rock and roll theme - have your guess dress up like they did in grease!
