That is a dang good question!!!!!

Because of the texture

Why is it called butter to begin with if there are no butts in it? It does come in close proximity to a butt but it is not directly correlated.

It IS a type of butter.

It does not contain DAIRY butter, but keep in mind that there are other varieties. Butter does not have to be made from cream to be called butter -- just to be called "sweet cream butter" or "dairy butter."

The word "butter" by itself is the familiar dairy product made from cream. If the word has a prefix or modifier, then the spreadable product is made from that substance. E.g.: Peanut, almonds, and other nuts can be ground into a smooth paste.

Fruit, such as apples, peaches, pears, etc. may be cooked down (with or without sugar) and made into a smooth spread that's great on toast.

The peanut butter spreads as easily as butter.

I don't know for sure, but it could be that it has the same consistancy as soft butter, and you don't need any butter on you bread when you use it.
I would've called it peanut spread instead. But nobody asked me.

Because the peanuts are ground down into a "butter" like consistency.

Because the texture is like butter.

B/c it is also full of fat!

I know the peanut butter is just mixed with peanut and butter... hehehe...

because it just like butter that u use on bread.didn't u get it?or maybe the ingredients of the peanutbutter itself.there is butter inside, isn't?

because its smooth butta and creammy like butta and its likes to be called peanutbuttA

umm..actually im pretty sure it does have butter b.c after the peanuts are crushed down to a paste something must be put in to make it smooth or else it would be crunchy and not the same as regular peanutbutter.

peanut paste

butter is not only a dairy product, but any condiment that has a consistency similar to milk fat butter.

butter is not defined by its ingredient, but a butter is defined as anything with a creamy consistency.

In this case, peanut butter is actually considered what is defined by culinary as a "nut butter"

You don't know what butter is -- butter is not just the stuff made from cow juice. The term "butter" is used in the names of products made from puréed nuts or peanuts, such as peanut butter. It is also used in the names of fruit products, such as apple butter. Other fats solid at room temperature are also known as "butters"; examples include cocoa butter and shea butter. In general use, the term "butter," when unqualified by other descriptors, almost always refers to the dairy product.

because of the creamy consistency like butter, hense the name peanut butter.
