Train cake?!

Question:

Train cake?

does anybody know how to make a train cake. my grand daughter wants a thomas train for her birthday

Answers:
sDo what I did, buy a good size cake from the bakery with minimal designs already on it. Buy the train ( a light weight one) after sanitizing it, place it right on top of the cake. Add your own decos around it, such as icing train tracks, granola for the gravel, the spray color in the can...I mean you can really hook it up and then she can have the train to play with after the cake is gone.

go to bed bath and beyond or Sonoma kitchin supplies and buy the cakemolds.

that might help you.

Check the bakery in your local grocery store. I am having Disney Princess a castle made at my local Kroger's grocery. Thomas the Train is very popular, so I am sure the bakery will have something for you!

if u go to publix they make special cakes.

i hope this helps you

Bake a sheet cake the size that you need. With an icing filled bag and round tip, size #18, draw the train on the cake top. Cut around the train shape making sure not to forget the smoke clouds.

The entire train birthday cake, except for the outline work is done using star tip, size #18. The outline work is done using round tip, size #5.

The wheels, bar and window are a light gray colored icing. Use blue icing for the engine room. Red icing is used for the top of the engine room and track shield in the front. Black icing is used for the smoke stack and the bottom part of the engine between the wheels.

The center of the engine is bright yellow and the front tip is a bright green.

The clouds are white icing.

Finally, outline the entire engine in black icing using your round tip, size #5.

If you do not want to cut out the shape of the train yourself, you could use the

1 package Betty Crocker SuperMoist chocolate fudge cake mix
1 1/3 cups water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1 tub Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy chocolate ready-to-spread frosting or
Creamy Chocolate Frosting (see Fabulous Frosting and Glazes chapter)
1 flat bottomed ice cream cone
8 rainbow-colored vanilla wafers
Black licorice twists
Assorted candies, cookies, crackers, cereal and popcorn, if desired
1 tub Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy vanilla ready-to-spread frosting or
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting (see Fabulous Frosting and Glazes chapter)
Food colors, if desired

Get a 3-D Wilton Cake pan, $15 at craft/cake supply stores. I would suggest printing out or drawing the "face" for Thomas and just pressing it on the engine front, as I have found it extremely difficult to come out decent piping on frosting.
Have fun and make train cars behind the engine- it doesn't have to the same cars as in the show. Loaf pans are best for the cars.
Check out www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com for different ideas to decorate, they have many pics of others' attempts at Thomas cakes!
Another tip- use Wilton's Cake -release spray if you are going to use the 3-D train pan!!! Also available at the cake/craft stores. The cake just falls perfectly out. It's devastating when some of it gets stuck in the pan!
