Alcohol in food for kids.?!

Question:

Alcohol in food for kids.?

Would it be okay to serve chili that contains tequila and beer at a family gathering with children? Would parents get angry with me for that? should i change the recipe?

Answers:
The alcohol burns off and just leaves the flavour in. I frequently use wine, beer etc in the food I cook and my kids love it.
I also use rum, brandy etc in desserts and in this case the alcohol doesnt evaporate. Its not a huge amount and it doesnt upset the kids. They even get to taste some of my wine/beer/brandy - just a little dab from my fingertips. Doesnt harm them and they just get excited being able to share something with an adult.

Ask the parents. Oh by the way when you cook with alcohol the alcohol burns off and all that is left is the flavor and such which is why it is not against the law to serve beer batter onion rings, or chili or chicken or anything with alcohol in it to children

from what i have heard alcohol itself cooks off and just leaves a taste

if the chili is cooked with the tequila or beer in it only the flavor is there and the alchohol is all evaporated .... It is a no brainer.... howeve if you know that some of your guests are ardent teetotalers I would leave it out to avaoid a scene ...

Cooking with alcohol is OK as the alcohol burns off as the food is cooked

yup you should, if you have kids coming to yr place and you want to lead by example or at least show that you are a true adult. well at least thats what we do here in theeasten side of the world. =-)
