What kind of finger foods should I have at our wedding reception?!

Question:

What kind of finger foods should I have at our wedding reception?

We are having a Hog Roast later that night for our close friends and family. But, just don't know what to serve.

Answers:
How utterly disgusting. I guess for that type of wedding, mini grilled cheese sandwiches and cut up cheddar cheese.

Amuse yourself and get good messy ones with lots of various sauces and sticky toppings. Then you can watch all the guests trying to eat them gracefully.

French fries and chicken nuggets maybe....

Stick w/ the classics:

Chicken Salad & Tuna Salad Finger Sandwiches
Hot Meatballs
Hot Little Smokies in BBQ Sauce
Fresh Fruit Assortment
Nuts
Mints

Pick out a few of your favorites from the following.......mini egg rolls, steamed shrimp, mini quiches, hot wings, raw veggies & dip, bacon wrapped scallops, finger sandwiches, etc.....I wouldn't go too heavy if the guests will be participating in the pig roast later.....Sounds great by the way!!

Fruit kabobs.
Cheese & Crackers.
Vegis & Dip.

With the pig, you'll want all the traditional roasted corn on the cob, salads, and crusty breads...but for pre-meal hors d'oevres...

How about puff pastries (asparagus, mushroom or seafood) on pretty trays. Serve this come-and-get-it style around a frosty bowl of homemade or catered cocktail sauce. Or pastry-wrapped deli slices for a jazzed-up antipasto offering?

Here are some other hors d'oevres ideas...
Crab Cakes
Crabmeat Rangoon
Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts
Mushroom Cap Stuffed with Spinach
Potato Skins with Cheddar, Bacon, and Chives
Celery Stuffed with Salmon Cream Cheese
Cherry Tomato Stuffed with Cheddar
Fruit Skewers: Carmel Cream or Amaretto Dip
Mini Quiches
Chicken Satay (peanut dippers)

Mozzarella sticks are always good to have. Celery sticks filled with cream cheese. Scallops wrapped with bacon. Fried chicken wings. Corn on-the-cob. Wieners on-the-stick. Popcorn balls. Corn pones.

At my brother's wedding, he had spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, bite size pizzas, bite size sausage rolls, little quiches. Everyone really enjoyed them, especially the spring rolls and pizzas.

Maybe have something sweet as well, like a big chocolate or carrot cake cut into little squares and bite size squares of caramel and chocolate fudge.

Basically, what you like everyone else probably will as well (as long as it is not really weird and obscure). Plus people are always really hungry at that time, so anything will please them.

Try serving; fried chicken wings, mini sandwiches(tuna, ham),mac n cheese, seasoned potatoes, corn on the cob. Something light.

It sounds like you are doing this without professional caterers. If so, then I suggest keeping it easy and simple (and inexpensive). Your local market or deli is a great place to get ideas. A deli or meat and cheese platter(s) with some assorted bread and finger rolls, some fresh veggies and dip, crackers and cheese. Friends and family may help bake chicken wings (BBQ, buffalo, sweet and sour, etc.). You could even but shrimp already seasoned and cooked and ready to eat (or thaw and serve). Garlic bread?

If you DO have it catered, then the above choices still work well, and more pastry type hors doeuvres may be an option. Things like mini quiche, franks in a blanket, stuffed mushrooms, meatballs, or a taco bar may be what you are looking for.

stromboli

Use some nice sized shrimp and a tangy cocktail sauce and some fresh vegetables with a good dip.
