Question:

Money isn't really an issue. She wants a ton of people there, so I was thinking of renting a banquet room at a hotel--

I live near Long Beach-- What are some of the nicer hotels in the area??

What are some other good ideas?

I was thinking of hiring people, from one of those character-companies, to dress up like each era of her life-- 50's, 60's, etc.

I don't know what their purpose would be though....

Any other ideas or websites?

Answers:
What about getting a cover band to perform some of her favorite songs? Are you also contacting people from her past that she maybe hasn't seen for awhile? Slide show is a good idea too set to one of her favorite songs.

Why not give her a retirement package as a gag gift?

Put together a PowerPoint slideshow of her life, which includes, photos, captions and some of her favorite songs in the background. Try to surprise her with an old friend she hasn't seen in a while.

I would give her a 50's party. Decorate it all in the 50's era..

here is a neat web site ,i like it for its ideas, a 50s theme would be good and if u hire people to be wait staff on skates like the old diners used to have or and have like a sock hop with oldies bands like dick clark on american band stand etc burgers fries and milk shakes ,poodle skirts lol a great cake idea from the ace of cakes have fun

Take pictures of your mom at various ages and blow them up. Use a "This Is Your Life" theme and arrange for her close personal friends from over the years to share something about her. See if there is anyone she hasn't seen in years that you could invite and surprise her with. Have guests sign a blow-up picture of her or fill out a guest book that she can keep. Hire a DJ to play all the oldies but goodies. If she's just turning 50, then her growing years were the 60's and 70's....the music was great and we were really into bra-burning and feminism as well as smoking dope, protesting the war, and free love. It was also a time of getting back to nature and a healthy way of living. Not sure what she was doing back in those times, but I was living in a commune at one point! Anyway, celebrate the special woman she has become!

get a stripper

i would offer to strip for the party but i would just git in trouble so maybee i wont do that isn long island kinda ruff

over the hill party, everyone wear's black.!
