Question:

Ideas for 50 year old surprise party?

Answers:
If you have any friends who have access to some motorized scooters, walkers, canes and the like I would have them there. Maybe have a good game of decreped bingo with blue M&Ms or other small blue pill looking item as the markers. Have people come in bathrobes, pajamas and slippers or hospital gowns.

OR decorate the entire place like it is for a funeral and have everyone wear appropriate funeral garb. Then you can get some great fake vultures nor and mock up a coffin to hold the gifts or to use to serve the food or store drinks.

Pretty much anything that says you are now officially old and frail or very close to death.

my dad turned 50 a few days ago. get a cake that has a grave on it and says R.I.P and lol and invite his/her buddies over and make a nice meal

don't be too loud heart attacks

I'm sorry but I don't think too many people that are turning 50 would find any humour in a gravestone over the hill cake. Find out what they like if it's golf or pool I don't know and find a cake designer who can replicate something of their interests. Get everyone they know to attend their party perhaps at a banquet hall. All in all just have fun and enjoy yourselves.

I would go classy & elegant. Just decorate in Gold and White. (gold represents 50)

Have every guest bring a dish as their gift for the b'day person. Have them include a card to be placed by the dish with their personal greeting on it. (b'day person gets to keep all the cards) Serve buffet style, so all can just mingle.

Current photo of the b'day person -- make sure it is at least an 8x10 and place a nice large mat around it -- each guest 'signs in' on the mat. Towards the end of the night, sneek the photo/mat into the other room where you have hidden the frame/glass. Put it together and present it to him/her.

Above all, just have fun and let them know how much they are loved/appreciated.

I don't think you should be surprising old people, but whatever. Have a nice party with some good food and a gorgeous cake! Don't put 50 candles on it though.

You know, having been there, 50 is one of those 'rite of passage' birthdays and deserves the treatment. Save elegant for any other birthday.

Every person I know, including myself, has had the funeral type party with all black clothed guests, a tombstone cake, my girlfriend was given a (rented) wheelchair for her party and it was hilarious.

This rite of passage party is supposed to be a total mockery of one's age, a total tease and, purely good fun. There is nothing insulting about it and I would suspect that only those who consider 50 to be (seriously) old would consider otherwise.

All gifts should be death related, black, even the family pet should be wearing a black arm band. Invitations with an obit on the front would be great.

At mine, my friends and fam, one at a time, stood up and toasted me with a glass of champagne in one hand and their eulogy to me in the other. Hearing your friends recite your eulogy is hilarious!

By the way, by the time you reach 50, nothing surprises you anymore so don't try.

BTW, those of you who gave Chrisopher a thumbs down, I would venture to say that you may feel kind of sheepish about it when it's your turn to have a 50th party and people show up at your party all hush hush about your age.

Remember, we have been where you are, we did everything you have done, first and, probably before you were born.

something totally baccanilian (ok so i don't know how to spell that word) but lots of wine, everyone in sexy greek costumes, oysters, cheeses, champagne. and a bonfire!!!!!

Have a wake.

Invite your entire family, make it a nice surpise party and have everyone for dinner. Most times people in their 50's just love spending time with their family.
