Where can I find directions for creative cake decorating?!

Question:

Where can I find directions for creative cake decorating?

My boyfriend's birthday is next week, and I want to bake him a cake either, shaped like a skateboard- or that has skateboard decorations on them. But I don't know where to look for directions on how to go about it. Anyone know of any websites where i can find that info? Or does anyone have any ideas on how I could make the cake?

Answers:
Hi. www.wilton.com has got ideas/instructions on how to decorate cakes.
If you want to make a skateboard shaped cake, just make a rectangle cake and cut it to the shape of a skateboard. Alternatively, get a picture of the skateboard from the web and trace it out on to tracing paper/greaseproof paper. Then ice your rectangle cake with butter icing but make sure that the consistency is thick. Then, place the tracing paper (with the skateboard design) on the cake and using a toothpick, poke holes on to the icing to form a pattern much like join the dots. After that, just follow the dots and ice the pattern on with a piping bag. I've used that method to make many of my kids birthday cakes.
Have a look at http://www.dharmnavaratnam.com/cakes.htm...

Hope this helps and good luck!

Go to the Martha Stewart website

Charm City Cakes!

Go to www.cakecentral.com. You will have to register, it only takes a minute. They have awesome cakes, and even a discussion forum. You post a question, and you'll be swamped with suggestions. They even have a photo gallery, you might be able to do a search of what you need and find it there.

It is a great web site, I have all of my cakes on it.

Good luck.

Someone said Wilton and they do make it easy. However their website is lacking in variety. Check out Bakers Nook .com they have more Wilton pans then Wilton does! They are so helpful and you should be able to find what you need. If you don't feel ok ordering online you can do it over the phone. I have also been to the actual store. It is in a small town and the people are great. Now that I live 1000 miles away I still only buy my cake supplies( all of them right down to food coloring) from Bakers Nook. And if you talk to them they will tell you every little thing you will need to make a skateboard and how.
