Any ideas for centerpieces at a 50th birthday party?

Answers:
You didn't mention if the guest of honor was male or female or how they feel about turning 50. Men and women may have different takes on this golden age, so your decorations may be geared toward how they feel about it. If your guest of honor is female then you might consider:

1. Flower arrangements with flowers and colors that she enjoys
2. Mirrors on each table with rose petals and candles in
hurricane glasses
3. Mirrors with small glass bowls with floating candles
4. Flower pots filled with gerbera daisys and panseys (also can be used as gifts for guests)
5. A symbol of her favorite hobby or pasttime

For men:

1. Flowers in some instances, perhaps bold colors, heartier flowers such as gerbera daisys, roses, carnations etc.
2. Fountains
3. Gold fish bowls with gold coins, divers, and fish
4. A symbol of their hobby or favorite pasttime

If someone thinks that turning 50 is the worst thing that could happen to them, then you might want to incorporate something tastefully humourous to cheer them up. Many women are entering into menopause, so that can be a funny thing to incorporate as well. Have fun!

Maybe some nice flowers
balloons
candles
lantons
Floating candles

How about an arrangement with flowers, plants, and something representing an interest of the guest of honor? For example, if they like golf, one of the arrangements can have a miniature golf club and a golf ball in it, etc...

Stay with your colors, red & gold -- for flowers, and also gold ribbon.

Do a hollywood theme -- use gold stems with gold stars and mount cutout pictures from movies of the year of their birth on foamcore

Gather artifacts from 1957 and build a centerpiece around it maybe albums, car models, vintage foods (think tv dinner box), inexpensive items from a flea market or antique store.

Check those cards in the stores that say "all about 1957" see what items were popular, and make groupings.

Buy up a batch of old vinyl albums from the 50s. use the covers, and mount several around it (or even 45s!)

Make each centerpiece an old favorite recipe with all the ingredients. nest all these in a bowl or cake platter with a recipe printed out in a vintage font.
i.e. tuna noodle casserole. a can of tuna, bag of noodles, can of soup , bag of chips.
- Cocktail weiners in jelly and barbeque sauce
