Is a Mardi Gras themed party a good idea for preteens? What games/activities/food?

You could introduce them to Francophone culture. Maybe some cajun food or organize your own parade? (no flshing) or design their own masks?
I don't think is a good idea for preteens. I would not allow my kids to do one at this age.

Maybe you could have like fake money for actions for things and lots of games like making masks and so on.
i dont think it's a bad idea. i had one when i was 14. have the beaded necklaces, serve some new orleans dishses and just have some great cajun music, jazz music and regular games. the games dont have to fit the theme. however you can have a kareoke machine and the kids can ham it up. and while they perform they can throw out necklaces out to the audience! the decorations are all over the place, you can go to a party store and they'll have plenty of hats, and decor. have fun!! that's the point. mari gras is not about showing your boobs lol it's just something they do. good luck!
I think it would be cute. My daughter is turning 16 at the end of may and she has decided on this theme for that party. This will be the 2nd time she has used this theme. The main reason is the colors and being able to hand out beads as favors. Go to oriental trading and they have free shipping and 15% off until the 20th of this month. A fun thing to do as a contest for a prize is make and wear your own mask. Then have a contest/judge who has the best, worst, etc.... for prizes. Good Luck
ya know those Mardi Gras peeps are all about the beads and parades and colorful disguises and masks and of course the music is loud JAZZ... it could be fun... cause the kids love beads and bracelets... let them take them home afterwards too
