Hawaiian Party - Who can think of an original costume?!

Question:

Hawaiian Party - Who can think of an original costume?

I've got a friend's 21st coming up and it's a Hawaiian dress up party. I'm trying to think of costumes that are different from the standard hawaiian shirt and all that. Any ideas? (I'm a guy by the way, but any ideas for a girl would be fine too because my girlfriend doesn't know what to wear either!)

Answers:

STAY HAPPY sew VERY HAPPY

go as captain cook

Maybe be one of those tiki lamps or a famous wooden statue. Of course it's difficult to party in costumes like that. The real dance costumes are hard to find but look way better than just a Hawaiian shirt. You could record some Hawaiian songs on a thingy (whatever you have; mp3, etc.) and have people hit a button on your shirt to play. You could glue some sand to some old clothes and say your the beach while your girlfriend holds the Corona. She could also hold a squirt bottle and sspray people with warm water to represent their tropical rains (which are warm) . I suppose if you get sick from too much drinking you could say your a volcano. lol.

dress up in a clam shell bikini and hula skirt with flowers around your neck, and have your girlfriend dress up as a crab...

You could switch clothes, you dress in a grass skirt and coconut bra. Have your gf wear the hawaiian shirt and baggy shorts along with sandals with white tube socks.

If you are looking for an idea for just you and your girlfriend, might i suggest the Fockers! We went as them last Halloween and had a blast with chimi's and sex therapy.

Go as Spongebob Squarepants! He lives in a pineapple under the sea! Or be the pineapple! Oh no! I know! Be a burlap bag of kona coffee beans! Just don't be poi.

Why don't you both wear cut off shorts and peasant style shirts, sandals and tossle your hair - go as beach bums, Maybe carry a coconut glass with an umbrella for her and a beer bottle for you.

luau-themed parties are always a blast, but unfortunately there isn't much variety in costumes. You could go as a tiki statue (but that may be uncomfortable and you may not be able to dance); a surfer; or you could wear a bikini top and a grass skirt (which would be really funny since you're a guy!)

Have your girl friend go as princess comeoniwannalayyou, and carry alot of leis, and you can go as a tourist..skezzy shorts, knees socks, flowery shirt, hat and big camera around your neck, with fake airplane tickets sticking out of your back pocket..fake sun burn

Dress up as the Hawaiian Royalty - look up the history and you will find photos. They have great outfits for women and men!

You could go as Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife.

You could go as the Hawaii 5-0 cast members (book-em Danno)

You could be a surfboard

I was in Hawaii one year for Halloween and the funniest costume I seen was a guy dressed as that red waxy looking flower with the long yellow centre (think it might be the state flower) anyway the yellow center was positioned appropriately for a man....if you get my drift. It was hillarious!!

Swim wear under matching white terry cloth robes that can open or belt closed depending on how much you want the others to see. Swim googles can park on your forehead.
Don't forget to wear comfy sandals and take a towel along for
yard lounging if a snooze seems warrented. She'll probably want you to rub lotion on her (which will make all the other males experience envy).

try orientaltrading.com - they have many hawaiian themed party items including costumes.

hawaiicity.com has some need stuff from Hawaii.

Go as a pineapple!

PRINCE JONAH KUHIO KALANIANA'OLE

Born on March 26, 1871 Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole was prince of the reigning House of Kalakaua when the Kingdom of Hawaii was overthrown in 1893.

Prince Kuhio was raised in Koloa on the island of Kauai, and attended the Royal School on Oahu, originally called the Chief's Children School. He studied for four years at St. Matthew's College in California, the royal Agricultural College in England, and then eventually graduated from a business school also in England.

Upon the assumption of the Kalakaua dynasty to the throne of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1884, a proclamation ending the Kamehameha Dynasty also declared Kuhio a royal prince. King David Kalakaua, also Kuhio's uncle, then appointed him to a seat in the royal Cabinet administering the Department of the Interior. However, American businessmen overthrew the Hawaiian kingdom in 1893. A year later, Kuhio and brother Kawananakoa joined other native Hawaiians in an attempt to restore the monarchy. The attempt was unsuccessful, and Prince Kuhio was sentenced to a year in prison while others were executed for treason against the republic. After getting out of prison, Kuhio left Hawaii and traveled in South Africa for a few years, vowing never to return to a Hawaii that appeared inhospitable to Hawaiians. During his time away from home, he joined the British Army to fight in the Boer War.

After returning home, Hawaii had already been annexed as territory of the United States. Had the Hawaiian monarchy continued, Prince Kuhio probably would have become King of Hawaii upon the death of Queen Liliuokalani. Instead, he was elected as Hawaii's congressional delegate for 10 consecutive terms.

Kuhio was often called Ke Ali'i Makaainana (Prince of People), and is well known for his efforts to preserve and strengthen the Hawaiian people. While a delegate of Congress, he spearheaded the effort in the passage of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act that provides lands for native Hawaiians to homestead. Prince Kuhio was also known for restoring the Royal Order of Kamehameha I and establishing the Hawaiian Civic Club.

Prince Kuhio served in congress from 1903 till his death in 1922. His body was laid to rest with the rest of his royal family at the Royal Mausoleum in Nuuanu on Oahu.

A new statue honoring Prince Kuhio was dedicated in 2002. The statue is slightly larger than life-size, and is located in Waikiki. Artist Sean K.L. Browne said that building the statue was a great significance for him because he was raised on Hawaiian Homes land.

The territorial Legislature passed a resolution in 1949, establishing March 26 as a territorial holiday in honor of Prince Kuhio.

Since March 26 is Prince Kuhio Day, you would be honoring this Ali'i.
