GO out to eat at at fancy restarant and then go and hang out some place fun like the movies, or the mall!
I did mine on phantomof the opera and we had little skits and a fight scene we also displayed the movie on a wall. My friend also did hers on rock and roll have everyone dress up like rock and roll!
every year we have a big wiener roast for my sons birthday party in Oct,they bring the music out and set up the volley ball net and eat wieners ,chili cooked out side on the fire,hot choc late ,soda, chips and we get bails of hay ,bring out the telescope to look at the stars,they make so mores,and everyone comes back ever year so we must be doing something right ,best thing is just ,go a little nuts with them and they will have fun,we play goofy music mixed in with favorites and get balloons,party favors like the blow out whistles ,i know i know it sounds nuts but everyone gets into it once they get over being shy which isn't long,and make sure you invite all kinds of people that you usually don't so there's a good mix,get bails of hay to set on and serve your self style easy fun

Have you thought about a Luau? Some people enjoy doing this idea since they have a pool in the back yard and they also invite a few of their friends over.
