Using fondant on a cake?!

Question:

Using fondant on a cake?

How do you correctly put fondant on a square cake? How do you get the corners smooth? Thanks!!

Answers:
1. Roll out the fondant so that its big enough to cover the top and side s of you cake. (Use string to help you measure).
2. Carefully place the fondant over the cake, making sure that all your sides are covered and theres are no air pockets trapped on the top.
3. Gently ease the fondant into the cake sides, when you get to the corners, cup your hand around the corners and ease the fondant down onto the cake board with the edge of your hand. Do this carefully to avoid creases and cracks.
4. Trim the excess fondant from the cake base, and remove any air pockets by pricking with a pin.
5. Use a cake smoother or plain kitchen paper to polish the top and sides to give a flat even surface. Leave to dry.

you have to roll it out really good. this is something that takes practice... ur not gonna get it perfect the first time u know! so be patient and dont worry if it doesnt come out perfect the first time.

roll out the fondant to its smoothest and then lay across your cake and trim edges with some kitchen shears to make even.

I have done this and around the base I used a colored ribbon that I measured around the base and use some sort of glue to hook the ribbon together (if it is not touching the cake at all rubber cement or something along those lines to keep the ribbon held together) then use like pastry glue or sugar mixed with water and a baste brush or small paint type brush to put on your ribbon to make it stick to the cake.
