End of Summer baby shower, theme BBQ. Ideas?!
End of Summer baby shower, theme BBQ. Ideas?
I am having a coed baby shower the last week of July. I love summer so I made it a BBQ/shower. What are some good ideas for games, food, etc. that would make everyone happy and comfortable?

I was thinking of a Texas hold em tournament but instead of a buy in of cash then buy in with a useful item such as a bottle, bib, etc. The prize could be a girft card to a local restaruant. Any thoughts?

Okay here are some ideas from me:
Foods with "Baby" in them.
BABY back ribs
BABY spinach salad
BABY carrots and dip
etc.
(To emphasize this make little placards to put beside all the food items with what they are....cute, but not over the top!!)
GAMES...I have a page off of my site that is dedicated to SENTIMENTAL, FUN, NEW activities at the shower. Check it out...all sorts off new ideas. The one that would probably be best at the shower is to have people decorate onesies (make sure to pick a range of sizes to get through the first year). Use fabric paint, sharpies, even iron on decals (you can get these at WalMart or Michaels or JoAnns). I have some other great activities on there, as well....you know the crowd better than us so you would know better what would work with everyone!!!
Decorations: If it is a barbecue....keep it casual, obviously. Your invites could say "It's a barbecue, Baby!!". Decorations could be relatively simple. Balloons, a banner (Celebrate Hailey...obviously use the name of YOUR Child). How about a diaper cake to decorate the gift table??? (Ruthless plug...I make them!!)
The key, here, is to make it casual....don't overplan but at the same time don't underplan. Have activities ready but be prepared to, maybe, not do them all. I really do like the idea of poker at the co-ed shower. That, to me, sounds like a GREAT plan. How about a package of diapers as the buy in (the smaller pack....usually goes for around $10.00). If it is a large shower....emphasize to those cloest to you that you would, maybe, like some sizes other than Newborn and Size 1 (so you don't wind up with too many of one size before baby goes into the next size!!!)
Good luck....and congratulations!! I put the link to the shower activity page below!

no games... Spare them with the games... Just have a party for them. open gifts and have some food... Mingle and have a good time.

Most likely the baby already has a ton of stuff between the parent's family and friends giving gifts. How about a party to provide something nice for the parents, since their lives will be changed dramatically when the baby arrives? Perhaps gift certificates for movies, dinner, a night out? Since you've decided on a barbecue theme, I'm thinking that you have some options about whether you want traditional barbecue foods or something less so. Here are some thoughts:
1. Chicken marinated in Italian dressing, grilled
2. London Broil, dry rub, grilled and sliced thin
3. Pork tenderloins, teriyaki flavor
4. A variety of sausages grilled
5. Grilled veges such as zuchinni, yellow squash, red bell pepper, portabello mushrooms. Use a mix of butter, garlic, salt and pepper to brush on during cooking process.
6. Yukon Gold potato salad with fresh asparagas and lemon zest.
7. Asian cole slaw with gorgonzola crumbles
8. Fresh fruit platter
9. Baked blackbeans with bacon and brown sugar
10. Assorted rolls and breads with sweet butter
11. Cookies, brownies, cupcakes
If these are too "far out" for your and your guests tastes, then traditional barbecue foods will be perfect!
