Housewarming party suggestions please...?!
Housewarming party suggestions please...?
First of all I want to make a housewarming party with friends and church members... so NO ALCOHOL, plus im pregnant so its no fair to drink in front of me... Id kill for a margarita...
My husband is making lumpias (this philipino food, kinda like an eggroll), some chips, dip, sodas, tea, punch
what else should I make, I dont want to make a meal, just like finger food. What kind of finger foods should I incorporate.
Second of all it's a party! And I kinda would appreciate gifts becase we need basic stuff like: curtains, silverware, trashcans, etc. Those little things. I made an invitation. Can you please put your input on the invitation. It's that way because it folds. I put that little envelope figure in the bottom to hint to bring money but should I put how much I want? I only want like $10.00 not too much, but it's reasonable right?
I'm considering doing it hawaiin theme...
Ne more input!
please

Moving into a new home ranks among the more exciting events in life. It's definitely time to break out the bubbly and celebrate. It can also be stressful if you're moving away from friends and family. In either case, holding a housewarming party is a good way to welcome new and old friends to your home.
Some people host a housewarming to show off their new, or newly renovated, home to old friends. In the case where the move is to a distant location, a housewarming can be used as a way to meet the new community. Finally, in some cases, family or neighbors bring the housewarming party to the new homeowner as a way of welcoming him.
If you're hosting your own party, you don't need to wait until your home is in perfect shape or until everything is unpacked. People understand that it takes a long time to get settled, and they're more curious to see what the house looks like than critical of the naked windows that don't have custom curtains hung yet.
The good news is that despite all the busyness of your move, a housewarming can be a relatively informal and simple event.
Invitation with a difference - your guests will talk about this for yrs

Your home is the main attraction so you don't need to plan lots of activities to keep your guests amused. They will be far more interested in touring your house than in playing party games at this time. The only game that might be useful is a simple icebreaker to introduce old friends to new neighbors. In fact, housewarmings are sometimes the only way old neighbors get to see each other with the hectic schedules we all live.
Tips for a Successful Housewarming
Invitations
When you issue invitations to this party, giving good directions will be very important. After all, this is the first time many of your family and friends will be visiting your new home.
Housewarmings are often casual events. You can issue an "open house" invitation stating a date with a range of hours that guests are invited to drop by. Formal invitations are unnecessary.
Tours
As I mentioned earlier, tours of your new home are the main event. Therefore, you should have a plan for handling them.
If you plan to conduct the tours, you'll need someone to act as host, answering the door, welcoming your guests, and making them comfortable until the next tour begins.
You can assign a close friend or family member to act as tour guide for you.
You can allow guests to give self-guided tours. In that case, you might want to give your guests a floor plan of your home. Label each room with its name, purpose and any interesting details you'd like to show off.
If you've made extensive renovations to your home, post a "before" picture outside each room. You could also post pictures taken of the rooms while under construction. People love to see the magical transformation.
This is one occasion where, if cleaning is one of your priorities, you should clean all of your rooms. Ignore this suggestion if your party is taking place while your boxes are still packed. Then anything goes!
Food
Since guests will be walking about and inspecting your home during your housewarming party, this is an ideal situation for casual, finger foods. Serve different choices in each room. Then, as they discover your rooms, there will be edible surprises as well.
Gifts
Do not expect gifts. Although gifts are customary, they should never be expected. The good wishes of your friends should be enough.
On the other hand, if you will be a guest at a housewarming and are looking for gift ideas, visit Interior Decorating Guide Coral Nafie for gift suggestions.
Decorations
Special party decorations are unnecessary. You don't want to detract from the features of your new home.
A few cheery floral arrangements will be more than enough to gild the lily
Well ! Having a housewarming party is fine, but don't you think you should prioritize your needs in setting yourself up ? Besides, I feel you should not mention MONEY here or it might be taken to mean that you are on the scrounge too.
If i was you i would have a vegi tray with vegi dip and maybe some fruit ca bobs.my birthday party was Hawaiian theme.also maybe some coconut drinks or tiki drinks.i think that the $10 is a good idea it not too much but its not too cheap.Hope you have a great time.congratulation!
i dont really no about the $10 deal but im sure people would understand that you are going to have a baby and you dont have too much extra money to throw around. besides your hosting the party for them.
some possible finger foods:
carrots and celery with ranch dip
fruit with yogurt dip
a block of cream cheese with little crackers next to it and sorta like a salsa on top of the cream cheese with jalepeno if u want (sounds gross but i made it once and i had to leave and get more!)
there are thes cookies you can make in like 5 minutes that look like little hamburgers and they are so cute:
take two vanilla wafers, vanilla icing, and either thin mints or those Elmer Fud cookies called grasshoppers at the grocery store and if you want: (sesame seeds and almond shavings-optional)
you take the two vanilla wafer cookies and put a thin mint/grasshopper imbetween them. also put in icing on top of the thin mint and add almond shavings if u like.
then if u want put one drop of sugar water on top of the vanilla wafer and add a few sesame seeds (the sugar water is so they stick)
then they look like little burgers!!!!
if u go with the hawaiin theme, maybe pineapple kabobs??
begging for money is never acceptable for a party!
You can however have a very trusted friend tell everyone that you are registered with....(whatever store close has a gift registry!) That way you go to the store and scan what you want...and hopefully get everything from the trash can to the curtains that YOU picked out!!
The foods sound great...make a blender ful of virgin margaritas..strawberry ones are awesome!
OK--first of all, even HINTING about a money gift is the tackiest thing in the world---take it off the invitation!!! Miss Manners would be HORRIFIED!
In a crockpot, put 2 packages of Little Smokie sausages, a 10 oz bottle of chili sauce, and a 10 oz jar of grape jelly.Cook on low til hot. (sounds weird, but people will LOVE them).
Get a bunch of wingettes from the frozen food section, and thaw for 2 days in the fridge, Drain any liquid, then put them in a large baking dish. Cover with a mixture of half soy sauce & half water. Marinate all day, then bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes, stirring after 20 minutes---another guaranteed hit.
Good luck on your new home...may it be filled with love and laughter all of your lives!
Best wishes in your new home...now about the food.Fruit slices and a nice dip for them is good.Veggie platters with a nice ranch dip is also good.Cheese and fancy crackers will work too.Little mini pizza would be a great idea if some folks are coming over with their children. Now about hinting for cash...no matter what the amount is you are asking,it is tacky. Some folks may have even gotten you a gift all ready knowing you were moving into a house. There may even be someone that made you a gift.Think how they'd feel knowing that they already got you or made you something and you are saying you'd like money.I'm sure that what gifts you get are going to be coming to you with many best wishes and love.So have a wonderful time with your friends and family.
