A waiter is a person who "waits" on tables, often at a restaurant. A female waiter is often called a waitress, though the gender-neutral term "server" is gaining ground.

Person who has to put up with the weirdos of this world when they go out for a meal. Hopefully they will get a sensible order from the customer and not a drunken res-ponce to a usually very nice waiter/waitress

Ther person who takes your dinner order, sometimes brings bread or the entrees, and your bill. Depends on what kind of hotel it is, sometimes there are people to bring the bread or food runners for the food, someone else for the drinks, etc...

There have been times I've only seen the waiter for taking our order, once to check on how everything is, and then again for the bill. Meanwhile other people take care of your other needs. It's weird.
