Answers:
Our appetizer experience from sweet 16 1 month ago!.

We just had our sweet 16 and had to use a caterer in order to get the hall but you can make everything yourself!.

We ordered a fruit tray, cheese tray, veggie tray, taco dip and chips and silver dollar sandwich rolls!.

No one touched the veggie tray!. The cheese tray was 1/3 eaten!. The taco tip went over great and had to be restocked twice, the fruit tray went over great, and the silver dollar rolls went over great!. They were ham, turkey and beef!. These are hand size and perfect and I saw the rolls for this at the grocery store!.

Anyway, so if I were you I would make a small cheese tray, make a double batch or taco dip, and have a good fruit tray and make the silver dollar rolls!.

These are all simple to put together!.

Taco Dip:
2 softened cream cheese!.
1 16oz sour cream
1 packet taco seasoning!.

Mix with mixer!. Put in bottom of a cookie sheet!. Top with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and green onions!. Use the cheese but you can altered the rest to your taste, maybe add black olives!. Make 2 of these!. Serve with tostitos scoops!.

Fruit bowl,!.
Whole pineppple into chunks!. Slice strawberries!. Add whole table grapes no seeds, add chunks of watermelon, and cut oranges in slices cut into triangles!. This is best made the night before so that the juices can all run together and stir before serving!.

Silver dollar rolls:
http://www!.heb!.com!. Just type silver in the search bar for a picture!.

It is just shaved deli meat and cheese triangles!. You dont have to put lettuce on them, ours did not have it!. t!. The ones that we had catered just had real butter on them and they had mayo and mustard packets on ice on the side!.

PUPPY CHOW
6 cups Crispix cereal
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter
12 ounce chocolate chips
2 cups powdered sugar
Melt peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips together in the microwave or on the stove!. Stir into cereal!. Put powdered sugar in a paper sack!. Put cereal mixture in and shake until well coated!.

I hope this helps you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Kids and expecially teens do not like fancy foo foo food or veggies!. Most of this stuff goes to waste!.

A really large package of flour tortillas!. They are cheaper in bulk and you can fill them with all kinds of things to make pinwheel sandwiches!. Kids of all ages and adults like these and then you can serve it with chips and dip on the side!.

Ham, turkey, or roastbeef with cheese

You can also get those large french loafs and cut them in half and make a baked sandwich and cut them into individual wedges!.

2 things was a huge hit with the kids and the first one is basically a can of chili and cheddar cheese!. You bake it onto the bread!. The kids loved this or you can also mic mayo along with your cheeses and bake this!. You can also do ham and cheese bake!. Or even frenchbread pizzas

Tuna

Egg Salad

Peanut Butter and Jam

You can also just get loves of cheap white bread and use a cookie cutter to cut out cut shapes!.

If you really want something that is a crowd pleaser just make up a huge pot of chili or refried beans and allow them to make their own taco salad or burritos!. Have all the fixins- cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sourcream, guacamole, and have chips on the side with dip!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not cheap, but "low cost"!. These are great tasting, look very expensive, easy to make!.

CHOPPED PORK SANDWICHES

1 6-7 lb Pork Roast (Boston Butt/Shoulder)
Demon Pig BBQ Rub
2 bottles "Demon Pig BBQ Sauce"

Trim Excess fat from roast!. Sprinkle with Demon Pig BBQ Rub!.
Cook on grill with indirect heat at 225/250 degrees for 6 hours to an internal temp of 160 degrees!. (This can be done in an oven or bbq smoker!.)

Place in pan with 1/2 cup water, cover and place back on heat for one hour to finish!. Remove from heat, let stand 30 minutes!. Careful uncover!. Let stand an additional 15 minutes!.

Pull and chop meat to just under bite size pieces!.

Warm "Demon Pig BBQ Sauce" slightly and mix thoroughly until lightly covered throughout meat!. Serve additional sauce warm on the side!.

Serve on buns with your favorite sides!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love the spiral sandwiches!. They look nice and taste great!. The salmon ones are good but there is a cheaper way to go!. Get tortillas (the big ones and they have new flavors), flavored cream cheese (I like the onion and chive), some good sliced deli cheese (provalone or any one you like), and any kind of sliced deli or lunch meat!. Just spread out a spoonful of cream cheese on the tortilla, add 2-3 slices of meat and cheese down the center, and tightly roll up!. Then I like stick them in the fridge for a bit before cutting into 1 in pieces!. You could even add some fresh herbs or lettace with the meat & cheese!.
Some other good cheap snack food I like to serve at parties:
Layered dip
1 larger can refried beans
1 pkg taco seasoning
1 pkg sour cream
Jar of any chunky salsa
1 pkg shredded chedder cheese
Small can chopped green chilis
3 chopped green onions
Sliced black olives

In the dish, add beans and taco seasoning and mix together then spread out!. Spread sour cream on top of beans, and salsa on top of that!. Then sprinkle cheese over salsa!. Garnish with green chilis, green onions, and olives!. Serve with tortilla chips!.

Rotel dip
Velveeta cheese, ground meat, and a can of rotel tomatoes!.

Little smokies sausages with BBQ sauce!.

These are just a few but are all crowd pleasers! Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cheap sandwiches: go to a store and buy 2 big loafs of the cheapest available bread!. Cut into small bitesize sandwiches after filling them with a cheap ham or something like that (you can get a pound realaitvely cheap in some places) Most people will only have a few so no need to make like 100!. Prepare main meals for your daughter and her friends such as chicken or something they like!. this way they will eat once and not need food every 5 minutes!. Buy Doritos and place them in bowls!. You can get party sized packs cheaply in most stores and have a few hard boiled sweets out that the guests can suck so that way they will have something and not be swallowing a lot the whole time!.
Have Orange or other drinks always available because usually drinking makes you less hungry!.
So I would say if you bought
2 bottles of juice
2 party sized doritos
2 loafs of cheap bread
A bag of hard boiled sweets
Meals for the guests
That should be plenty!. And they will be too busy to eat probably!. Anything left over you can eat with your family!. Serve the food in portions so that if people want more you can get rather than throwing out perfectly good food!.
Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Heat Seak--- has a good idea wih the roll ups
Another idea is to use Pita bread and fill with the sandwich fillings chopped egg, tuna, salad with sauces added to the pita- hummus- lettuce- tomatoes- onions- cucumbers all cut into small pieces!. These things could be placed into bowls and everyone could make their own Pitas with the filling they like!.Party Sandwiches are good also and can be made up ahead and stored in the fridge overnight!. Sliced up when served!.
With the roll-ups or Pitas go variety of salads Tacos with Salsa Dips etc!. Cold canned POP on Ice in bins or basins!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

pita bread or tortilla spirals!.
mix cream cheese with sour cream and maybe green onion or toasted onion mix, refrigerate the nigth before, tons of flavor and will not break the tortilla while spreading!.
maybe baking your own turkey and making it very flavor ful is cheaper than buying it sliced!.so shredded and fry some bacon -or get bacon bits, finely cut in stripes coleslaw !.mix with flavored cream cheese, spread on tortilla, and cut un slices!.
make italian filling by mixing the turkey with a paste made of:tomato paste, fresh basil leaves, crushed red pepper,a little garlic salt, stripes of bell pepper amd sreddded mozzarella cheese!.roll and cut!.or make "cones" secure with toothpicks!.
i think any food au gratin looks really elegant!.so maybe rice with broccoli,zuchinni-what ever veggie you can afford, cook in a pan with rice, transfer to a mold add sherdded cheese on the top in the oven till it is golden brown!.!.!.
a salad with fresh spinach, thiny sliced pears or kiwi, toasted cashews, some avocado, shredded red-purple slaw and a honey dijon dressing is a different salas!.remember to have a dispenser for the dressing so if there are left overs it will not be wilted and go to waste!.
cake mixes taste a lot better if you add butter not oil!.if you bake 2 and "glue" together with a fancy marmelade of say mango,guava!.!.!.and make a nice frosting-sorry i don′t know any!.!.!.tons of fun 4 the daughter!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Do party rolls!.!.!.!.!. Depending on what they like, but i like to take wraps (get flavoured ones if that works), spread cream cheese, some red onion, (capers add a nice touch) and then some cooked salmon!.

doesn't take much either once it's crumbled!. roll it up, slice into half inch, or 3/4 inch slices!. repeat!. makes lots and cheap!. you can do it with whatever you like too!.

cut up potatoes into wedges!. jazz em up, salt, pepper, cajun, rosemary, something like that, bake em on fairly high heat so the crisp up on the outside!. then serve them in little small serving cups so you only put 2 or 3 in each, and serve with some sort of dip!. i like honey mustard!.!.!.

make that with some dijon mustard, prepared mustard and honey!. mix it up to taste!.

Hope that works!.

Cheers,
B

i just saw something on the food network channel i twas called: California BLT's:

you toast slices of regular sandwhich bread!. put mayo like any other snwich, then youput lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, but then you add slices of avocados w/ squeezed lomon on the avocadoes which you do in a seperate bowl, before u put the slices of avocados on the sandwhich!. it sounds sooooo good!. i havent tried it yet, but it sounds great!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, rather then sandwiches, why don't you something like pizza, or fried chicken!.

If pizza isn't an option, due to some problem with the physical ingredients of the pizza (tomato allergy, lactose intolerance etc!.), then get a sandwich fixings tray at your local deli (ham, bologna, cheese, roast beef, tomatoes, lettuce, onions) and then set out a bowl of mayonnaise and and a bowl mustard with it, then get a 2 loaves of french bread, cut it into into approximately 5 inch long pieces (4-6inches depending on the actual length of the bread, try to space it evenly, then place it in a wicker basket that has been lined with a simple clean dish towel, and you have something that looks pretty fancy for around $45 and and that's if you need to get the wicker basket and a clean dish towel because they are all stained :) hope this idea works

oh and PS don't forget the cake, but also don't make it a common cake unless she is a particular fan of normal yellow cake with mundane icing, go with something a little different, like a cheesecake, a strawberry short cake, a German chocolate cake, a carrot cake, or perhaps something exotic-ish, like a pineapple upside down cake, or something, an orange glazed cake, something like that, just don't give her the same kind of cake as she got last year unless she really loves that kinda cakeWww@FoodAQ@Com

my experience with teenagers and food at parties is that small is best, they are social grazers and prefer to stand and visit as they eat!.
so rather than having a designated time and place to sit and eat ,I prepare an open buffet table!.

our last party had approx 30 people, food and drinks ,$80!.00
we served ham salad and tuna salad on wheat and white dinner rolls,(perfect size) my bakery sells them $2!.00 a dozen
Ive also done BBQ pork!.(a large ham roast costs under $12!.00)and cooked in a crock pot in apple juice till it falls apart ,chop and add BBQ sauce ,serve on same rolls!.serves alot of people!.

a 5 pound roll of burger will make a lot of sloppy Joe s and you can make the sauce yourself alot cheaper than buying the can!.

another favorite is a layered Mexican dip!.
on a large platter i layer re fried beans (3 large cans ,1 pkg taco seasoning ,a little water ,mix together to make it a little less stiff) premade guacamole , salsa, sour cream and top it off with chopped tomatoes ,green onions ,black olives!.this is always a big hit!.
serve with lots of tortilla chips

hot wings are popular but pricey ,$10!.00 for a 3 pound bag!. I save this for smaller groups!.

fruit trays go over good, esp!.if you have a bowl of caramel sauce or fudge sauce nearby!.
veggie trays arent as popular

off brand pop can sometimes be easier than making punch!.and by the time you figure in the price of the drink cups, cheaper!.

large trays of brownies for dessert are a big hit!.
and can be made fairly cheap at home!.

hope I was helpfull

Grated cheese, chopped red onion and mayo
Egg, cress and mayo
Tuna, sweetcorn and mayo

Anything with mayo can be spread a lot easier and go further and you don't need to use butter as well!.

Roast your own chicken and use the meat for your sandwiches maybe add stuffing in them!.

Cut in to triangles or fingers so they go a bit further!.

I really like the potato wedges idea, very cheap and very tasty you should definitely do that!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I just hosted a Bridal shower for my soon to be sister-in-law!. I made Cucumber Cream Cheese Open Faced Sandwiches!.Very Inexpensive!.!.!.very simple!.!.!.

Take 8oz or Cream Cheese and a packet of Italian Salad Dressing Mix Powder(approx!. 0!.7oz pack) Stir together and spread on little tea sandwich sized wheat bread or even trisket crackers then top with cucumber slices that are thin (use a mandolin) Such a fresh summer appetizer! Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Go to a bread store and buy the bread!. Make egg salad, tuna salad, and ham salad mixtures!. Cut the crusts off the bread ( save for later use as bread crumbs )!. Fill with the different mixtures and cut with small fancy cookie cutters or just cut into 4 wedges!. Have plenty of chips on hand, along with soda or punch!. I also like the idea of a cheese tray with some crackers!. Total cost for everything would be under 40 dollars, maybe even less if you go with store brand items!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Something nice and cheap is chicken wings!. You could buy the whole wing and then use your kitchn shears to cut them into 3 pieces!. You could always make some pasta, that is something that is cheap and can stretch!. I would make stuffed jumbo pasta shells!. You could stuff them with your daughter's favorite meat, cheese, and veggie!.

Hope your daughter's party turns out great!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i would get what ever is on sale at the deli and make sandwiches with them cut off the crust then use a cookie cutter to shape them so the look special or you can even fill them with egg salad or tuna sald which might be even cheaper!Www@FoodAQ@Com
