Good ideas for welcoming a veteran home?
My friend is coming home from Iraq in July and I was wondering what are some good ideas for a welcoming home party? He's a big partier and loves a stiff drink so should I just throw a HUGE party with all of our friends and neighbors or just keep it low key?

Oh, fun! We welcomed my daughter home last June. If you're in contact with him, ask him!!!!! When my daughter arrived home from Iraq there was a welcome home at the base as they got off the plane and then just our family went out to dinner where she wanted. She slowly eased back in to seeing all her friends a few at a time and there was a big party a couple of weeks later. It was such an emotional time for her and a big transition so I think easing back in to a normal routine worked best for her. She saw a lot over there, was shot at, had a vehicle right in front of hers hit an IED, made some life long friends, including some Iraqi's that she'll worry about forever. But she did great coming home and loved catching up with everyone.
We did have our house all decked out so when we drove up the driveway with her for the first time she saw how much we had all missed her. I went to our local Paper Warehouse and they had all kinds of red, white and blue in June for the 4th of July.
We welcomed a neighbor home from Afghanistan (we're Canadians) and the entire neighborhood had yellow ribbons on the hedges all the way up the block. Over the next week we all stopped by to say hi, but no large parties.
Just dont invite Bush. It will ruin the party.
Try an make it a surprise party i would think that may b hard 2 do but atleast attempt 2 keep it from getting back 2 him. Spice the party up some with maybe some stripper dancers and perhaps have a hugh cake which u jump out the middle of. Since he likes 2 drink perhaps play some drinking games an reward the winner. The more people the merrier. Make him think it is low-key n the beginning than go all out n the end.
I'd keep it low key. Let him get back home and see his family for a week or two before planning the big party.
Decorate in Red, white and blue, have a flag cake, apple pie, BBQ, just good ol' American food! Since he's coming hom in July, you ought to be able to buy 4th of Jully decorations cheap on July 5th, but have them still work for your party!
Do a family home coming first and allow him to adjust to being home first and being with them. Then in a couple of weeks or so have a bigger gathering with everyone else.
Give him a naked woman and leave them alone!
