Spit roasting a pig...?
A few years ago I helped out at a pig roast party on a farm, and now want to have one myself. They did it themselves on an open spit with two charcoal baskets beneath- and I turned the spit!
The hire places have seen are really expensive, and use automatic enclosed gas powered spits-I'd much prefer an open fire/charcoal roast.
Can you hire stripped down equipment, and would a novice be able to pull it off without poisoning everybody?
The party will be in Bedford, and I live in London, so can pick up equipment from near there

I'm usually not the type of person to just direct you to a link, but the whole process of spit roasting is quite long and involved and there are all kinds of variations.

the company that has the equipment will recommend a person to "help" and you can let that person mingle with the croud and make you look like a smart person!
