Do you think that there is a large need for event/party/wedding planners?
I love to plan parties and receptions and was wondering if I should persue it as a business..I wonder if everyone would rather plan events themselves instead of paying some one. I dont even know what event planners charge for services. Any one have any information/ideas on this?
Answers:
no, there are people who hire planners for them. there's this new show on Fox called "The Wedding Belles" about three wedding planners. it's TV, but you can watch it to get ideas of how much they get paid and stuff.
I love doing this as well. I don't know how much of a need for them there are, I guess it depends on where you live. People who hire event planners know that they are going to be spending 10 - 20% more on them, depending on what percentage they take. If you live in an area where people would do this then go for it. If you don't start off small. Volunteer for a local planner and get some experience. You will meet vendors, get an idea of the clientele and see if it is reasonable that you make a living at this.
I've put on, three weddings, including doing the food, cake, and flowers all myself. If I could have afforded it, I would have certainly used a wedding planner. I have thought about going into the business myself, but that was years ago. At the time as a single mom I just couldn't afford to quit my regular job to build a business doing that, but there certainly is money to be made. You may want to talk to someone in the field that is already in the business and successful. Go to a different area from you, someone you would not be in competition with you, ask her ( or him) to lunch and perhaps offer to work for free for a few weeks and milk them for as much information as you can to learn the business before you make a final desicion.
Not really,
these are great occasions and you should celebrate them your own way.
I don't know how they set up their charges, but I did have a wedding planner for my wedding. Though she she wasn't the greatest it was helpful because she knew what was going on and I didn't have a clue. I would say definetly there is a need for them!!! They can make the big day go so much easier. You should contact a country club in your area and talk to their event planner. They could help you decide if it is something you want to pursue. Good Luck, I hope you have fun with it.
I do believe they serve a greater purpose. People are usually so busy with other details that it's nice to have the option to use an event planner who can take so much of the burden from you.
