Celebrating 30th and 50th birthdays?
My husband will be turning 30 and my father in law will be turning 50 next month.My sister in law decided to incorporate both parties together so it isn't as costly.
I am in charge of ordering the cake and decorations while my sister in law will be handling invites,food and drinks.
Should I get 2 cakes or incorporate both names into one big sheet cake also what should I use for decorations.Does anyone has any good recommendations for me to use for their milestone?

Hmm, I think you should do a big face-cake. Do you know about face-cake? That's the cake where you bring photos of the person (or people) you are celebrating to the bakery, and they use computer imaging to airbrush the picture onto the icing of the cake. It's funny and cool. You can bring pictures of both your husband and your father-in-law to the baker and have them screen both of them onto it. Also, for decorations, maybe you can make the whole theme a Time Warp, where you celebrate stuff that happened in the 20 year span between the years your father-in-law and your husband were born. For instance, if your father-in-law was born in 1957 and your husband was born in 1977, you can feature music, TV shows, fashions, and fads that were prevalent between those years. Since the time frame spans the 50's, 60's AND 70's, you will have a lot to work with. Tell the boys happy birthday from me!!!!
I would use one big sheet cake, because it is cool that you are celebrating it in one occasion, and would be nice to have both in one cake.
I would definitely order two cakes. Get cakes that are representative of who they are. For example my husband loves college football. For his birthday I had a cake made in the logo of his favorite team. As for the decorations it probably make more sense to go with a color theme. Even though the party is for two people, they are milestone birthdays and should both be given what they like.
If the party goers will be able to eat both cakes, then get 2.But if not and it is going to be formal dinner, then 1 will do.I would just decorate with the Birthday theme.The 50 year old would appreciate it.Do you know how funny it would be to have the 2 cakes come out with all those 80 candles burning?You could have a fire extinguisher handy to make fun of it.If it is going to be a Funny party, try the candles.have a blast anyway...
A few years ago it was my college graduation, my dad's 50th birthday and my parents' 25th wedding anniversary all in one month. We had a big luau to celebrate it all.
