Any suggestions for Themed food nights?!

Question:

Any suggestions for Themed food nights?

My husband and I host a small group at our home on Sunday evenings. We always have a meal afterwards and we theme the meals so everyone can bring something that goes together. So far we have done baked potatoes, bring your favorite cereal, mexican, italian, pizza, and hamburgers.
Everyone in the group wants to continue doing the themes- they say it makes it easier to know what to bring- but we are all out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Answers:
You have endless opportunities with this.

Fondue party. You can have cheese in many variations, bechamel (I don't think I spelled this right), chocolate, berry! The dippers are endless as well!

My favorite food night! This won't have any theme other than it's probably pretty yummy food.

Tapas. I love tapas and the variation runs from meat, potatoes, veggies and seafood.

Finger food night. They can bring anything you don't need a plate and fork for.

Soup night. I probably like soup more than most people in the world, but you can have each person bring a small pot of soup with whatever bread, chip, cracker they like. I love serving soup out of plastic shot glasses.

A night of extravagance. What is your favorite food you can't afford on a regular basis. Everyone can get a tiny mother of pearl spoonful of caviar on a blini.

BBQ night. Ribs, chicken, beans, potatoe salad, corn on the cob, etc.

My all time favorite would probably be dessert night!

How about cannibalism?

(okay seriously, how about an international night where everyone has to bring some international/ethnic dish?)

you could do breakfast foods, comfort foods, childhood faves (like mac -n-cheese and hot dogs), soups, finger foods, color themes (each has a color to represent), sandwiches, and casseroles

hope some of these help

there are many Chinese dishes,to be made. your fortune says "great luck"

You can have an Italian themed night.....make a few small pizzas with different toppings. Some kind of pasta with red sauce and you could make some bruschetta with tomato basil and olive oil.

Home style favorites, all dessert night (that could be really fun), Chinese night, unusual food night (find recipes for things that are really unusual pairings), breakfast for dinner night, soup/stew night.......that's all I can think of.

Ethinic cuisine night is obvious... Hopefully, the following are some unique ideas that would be fun to do...

1) How about a comfort food theme? Where people cook a dish that is comfort food to them. That way it's all a total surprise for everyone without conforming to a rigid theme, such as, pizza or mexican... etc.

2) Julia Child's Night where you all pick one of her books (or any cookbook) and everyone makes a dish from that book. You can give people chapters they can focus on so you don't have overlap.

3) Restaurant Food - everyone tries to make a dish that emulates from their favorite restaurant.

4) Booze in food night... All the dishes use wine or liquor - Coq Au Vin, Marsala Chicken, Beef Burgandy, Short Ribs Braised in Red Wine, Tiramisu... etc.

5) Egg night - the folklore behind a chef's toque blanche (white hat) is that the pleats represent the ways he can cook an egg. What kind of dishes can you and your friends come up with using eggs. Creme Burlee comes to mind. Yumm!

6) Fire night - dishes that are cooked with an open flame, including grilling. Bananas Foster, Crepes... Kind of a macho male theme... lol.

chinese food, spanish food, desserts, wine, fav childhood food, appetizers, fish, casseroles, fav chicken dish, fondue, bbq

How about a tapas night? Everyone can bring their favorite appetizers and you can serve sangria.

Another fun one is 'bring a dish you a famous for' night. They bring the recipe that is always in demand when they go out. Very fun!

Picnic
Sports themed
Star show (maybe someone has a telescope)
Appetizers Party

Salad night can be fun. You supply the lettuce, dressing, and rolls, and everone brings an add-in like bacon, cheese, croutons, nuts, fruit, corn, beans...etc. Then everyone can add in what they want and it's relatively healthy.

There are so many possibilities!!!

Let's see: Salad night-many different types that can double as an entree like tuna salad, taco salad, seafood salad.

Choose a country for one of the nights, like every other week.

Western night, open to interpretation.

Grill night.

Veggie night.

Pasta night.

Favorite childhood recipe.

Favorite, from scratch, recipe.(Not boxed, microwave, etc.)

Special ingredient night.

Suprise ingredient night.

Favorite chef night(bake or cook something that you like from your favorite chef.)

Hollywood night.

Sports night.
