Answers:
I had a luau and asked the guests to wear Hawaiin clothes!. Have lei's available to give all the guests!. Either burgers or sandwiches are fine!. You might want to serve Mai Tai's if you want to serve an alcoholic beverage!. Some pineapple and fruit dip would be good!. also BBQ wings would be nice!.
Here's a little rhyme for you:

So and so, and so and so are turning Fifty!.
I want to say that this is really nifty!.
I'm having a luau, to take away the sting!.
Only yourselves you need to bring!

Have fun facts of what happened that day 50 years ago, you can look them up at wikipedia!.

I would ask them to wear Hawaiian if they have it, but make sure you provide at least some lei's, which you can usually find a pack at a dollar store along with lots of other cool hawaiian decor!.

Make sure you serve something more Hawaiian, pulled pork sandwiches would be easy and perfect for the theme!. And fruit skewers with lots of pineapple and mango!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would not require guests to wear Hawaiian clothing!.!.most people won't want to go buy a special clothing for one party!. You can however suggest that they wear a Hawaiian shirt IF they have one!. If you are doing a luau, you need to serve something that matches the theme!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
