Having a theme is a good idea but you need more. Consider the characteristics of the guests--their ages, interests, etc. If the party needs to be family oriented or not is another consideration. Also what is the environment? Is it a pool party at a clubhouse or in a yard? Here are some ideas that can accommodate one, some or all considerations: Have a few contests such as water balloon catch, Limbo dance contest, Caricature drawing contest, pool volleyball. There are so many things one can do if you consider the guests characteristics!

and then maybe have some games / activites to go along with your theme!
Play really good music, that you just have to move to.
