Food Suggestions For My 2YO Birthday Party.....Lots of Guests!?
Okay, I have a very large family and my daughter is turning 2. We have done a few things but looking for alternatives. We've done the pizza/salad/breadstick route. We've done the sub sandwiches route. We've done the chicken and mostaccioli route. We've done the BBQ pulled pork sandwiches/salad route. And we've done the 7 soups to choose from route.
Any one have any other suggestions. Looking to serve up to 45 people (and yes, that's just family). Her birthday is in April so a spring alternative would be nice but really I'm looking for ANYTHING different.
Thanks for your time and suggestions.

how about a mexican themed meal? like a make your own taco/burrito/quesadilla island?
people always have fun when they get to make their own meals
oh, and if you guys like chinese, arrange a dimsum island, buy lots of different types of dimsum so that people can choose what they want :)
hope that helps! =)
See if there is a a caterer that has a portable cooking station and does gyros, I did this for about 55 people for around 300 bucks, he came out roasted the leg of lamb i believe it was and cut and served all guests, with seconds and thirds, he also made baked potatoes and had and array of sides and condiments. drinks were up to me, went off great. I did the same thing but with a mexican caterer and it was barbacoa tacos instead, went off just as well.
The money is worth it because the burden of serving is taken away and cleanup is minimal.
How about a cook out? Hamburgers, hotdogs and the trimmings - include things like potato chips and toritlla chips and lots of different pickles!@~
grill hamburgers, hot dogs and serve potato salad, chips and dip. lots of finger foods that folks can fix for them selves. thats a crowd!
You could get the grill fired up and do sausages and burgers. That is pretty low stress....then you could have a fixings table for assemble your own...get some coolers with juice boxes/sodas for the kids and fun veggie trays. Then make the cake spectacular.
have a buffet thing...finger foods (mini burger, mini hotdog sandwiches, small pizza, pigs in a blanket, small quiches, etc), mini muffins or cupcakes, fruit salad, punch, small donuts, small croissants, small cheese cakes
baked zit or lasagna
chicken baked macoroni and cheese with corn and a bread crumb crust
eggplant parm
sausage peppers and onions
spagetti and meatballs
realy good cake. Shape it out of his fav. cartoon star

Same boat here, my daughter turns 3 in April and we have a very large family as well. There will be 7 little cousins and close to 40 adults. This year we are doing a baked potato bar. I have very large potatoes and will have lots of yummy things to stuff in them. Choices will be: cheese, sour cream, butter, bacon, broccoli, chili, green onions, chives. With this we will serve a great salad with lots of veggies in it. Kids like potatoes and adults can make theirs respectfully healthy. It's easy to cook and clean up after and leftover potatoes are easy to use up. Have a great party!!
Have a Mexican Roll Up Party Place the food out and let them have fun with it... make a few roll ups so they get the idea of what to do...
Also make divinity and color it in bright colors like orange, green, blue, red, purple and such and have small plates of divinity spread around the table to help with the decorative/festivity look.
SEW = Happy Birthday To The Little One
i would take the cost of that party and place it into an IRA fund or even a checking account saving account and do that for the next 18 years that would be a nicer present in the long run or may even go for 23 years
