Why are most chefs rude?!

Question:

Why are most chefs rude?

Answers:
Most professional chefs worth their salt are usually working anywhere from 70-100 hours a week, on their feet all day in a HOT, cramped kitchen, dealing with the grumpy and never satisfied public, dealing with late, hungover or doped up employees, dealing with the owner or general manager who wants the food cost lower and profits higher, throw in a few burns and cuts, an overcooked filet mignon sent back, a vegan in the dining room wants something special, not that much sleep last night cause of a late dinner rush. Oh yeah, and someone that wonders why they aren't smiling. Walk a week in the life and let's see your attitude

Are they? How many chefs have you met?

Often times, if people are busy working and creating, then they don't have the brain space for idle chit chat. Maybe you're just catching them at the wrong time. I've worked in restaurants, and wouldn't label chefs as rude.

y are u rude?

I was a chef for 18 yrs. and I have never been rude.

They are paranoid nobody will like their Food!

we aren't rude just really stressed .....

Because, there's 2 much heat n the kitchen...lol

creativity and concentration are important to chefs esp. while cooking, but if they're rude outside of the kitchen or when they're not busy, then they're just plain rude...

LOL.....17 years as a Professional 5 star Chef and I'll admit it....yes a lot of us are.
First realize that Professional cooking is extremely demanding.

It's demanding on a creative level, and we're working in a high stress atmosphere.
Especially in high end establishments with high end clientele, the waitstaff is bending over backwards to please their customer...(YOU)....so they have no problem placing their modified (pleasing the customer, killing the chef) order.

Food is ART and unlike other Artisans who get to leisurely sip espresso in their art studio....we are continuously under fire!
If we seem a lil rude....I apologize....but in my case...you will never taste food more exquisite....more delicious, than what I prepare...so..... if I'm a lil arrogant.....maybe a lil rude.... and you've just enjoyed food from heaven....and probably didn't come into contact with myself or any other Chefs while you enjoyed your fine dining experience anyways!
BTW....you haven't seen rude until you experience the French chefs I trained under Mon Ami. ( Bon Jour Chef Jean Luc..lol)
Also...many Chefs, like myself, end up switching careers...they just didn't pay me enough to edure the grind any longer.

I`ll give you My opinion as to why there are rude Chefs. They look down upon the common crowd and see them as ignorant pedestrians. The knowledge of food and wine is one to be proud of and not just anyone can grasp it. It`s more of a badge of Greatness. So to speak. I went to an award winning Culinary school and have worked in fine Venues and posses knowledge in my field. But, I am not rude. I learned from my father who was a Chef and restaurant owner to be gracious. And to treat everyone the same. Unfortunately Their are not-so-good chefs that feel they are superior.

I didn't know they were, but it's probably they believe tht they are so great.
