HOW can I become a bartender??
i have a little experience from working at weddings when I was 17, now I am 19 and I want to work at a bar/club but I have some issues. One: will there be stereotypes about a bartender, than he/she is easy or flirty, because that is not me, i never even dated, and downtown is not even my scene at all..i just love serving drinks? (i am friendly tho!!) Two: when does a bartender usually work, what time? i go to sleep ususally early b4 midnight and i dont want to ruin my sleep patterns by goin to bed at like 4 am. Three: how do i actually apply, where do i learn, how long does training take etc. ? Thanks alot...........xx

Young lady, bartending is great money. Especially if you are attractive.
I have been a Vegas bartender for 13 years now.
It can be fun and your social prospects will grow greatly.
BUT, it can be destructive and you will age quickly because of the lifestyle. You will sleep less and drink more and your circle of friends will be less motivated and partying will be a priority.
Bartending while going to school is great, bartending as a career is unsatisfying to say the least.
In Vegas, we as union bartenders get over $14.00 an hour plus tips. but, the IRS, takes a huge chunk of our hourly to compensate for our tips and we are monitored like children.
The profession has changed dramatically over the last 5 years and it is only getting worse.
The training and knowledge you need gets more detailed every year.
Give it a try but look for a more stable career for the long run.
Good luck
Usually you just start at a restaurant as a server and work your way up, or just try applying at different bars. How was it legal for you to serve drinks at weddings when you were 17? Anyway, most people don't do this, but there is always the option of bartending school, which costs anywhere from 400-1000 from what I've heard. They usually have 100% placement also.
You can take a bartending course for around $500 to $700.
You might not need it, but it looks good when you go to apply for work.
Bartending school is a good place to start.
Sorry, you need to change if you go to sleep before midnight. Even if you get a job at a restaurant that closes before 11 pm, you need to clean up, cash in your drawer, and drive home. Once home, you cannot go right to sleep because you need to shower the grime off yourself and wind down.
It is good to start off at a slow place so you can learn. Also, go to a place where you can watch good bartenders so you can learn some tricks.
Don't take a training course because they typically don't make great bartenders.
tip-when making drinks, err on the side of weak drinks. Most people like drinks when you cannot taste the alcohol. Those that like em strong will let you know for the second drink.
I think around here it takes about a year of schooling to get a license. You should work at a supperclub-type place if you want earlier hours & better clientele.
well there's usually bartending schools. the one where i live in texas takes two weeks and then they help you find a job that suits you. its pretty cool. the number is 1800-bartend i dontknow where you live so i dont know if they have it where you are, but you could always just call them and ask, the worst they could do is say no, but in all likelyhood if they dont have that school where you live, they can point you towards the right direction.
